Senior Application Engineer

Business Unit: Technology Operations

Salary range: £40,800 - £61,200 per annum

Location: UK Hybrid / Travel to HQ Glasgow & Gosforth when required.

Contract type: Permanent / Secondment (full-time and/or part-time - confirm ideal hours)

Day to day you'll be:

• Working on resolving incidents & working with team members across IT to reach timely resolutions.
• Applying technical expertise to reduce repeat incidents and prevent reoccurrence.
• Supporting key banking systems & batches between 07:30 to 17:30, with some evening or weekend work for critical updates.
• Carrying out technical changes for BAU & key projects, focusing on reducing security vulnerabilities.
• Supporting team integration and all IT estate, including on-premise and cloud support.
• Assisting the Technology Manager & Lead Engineers in managing IT risks.
• Participating in discussions on new initiatives, work requests, and existing services.
• Conducting system health checks, performance monitoring, and troubleshooting across environments and OS.
• Managing stakeholders effectively, ensuring clear communication.
• Supporting audit processes and payment attestations.
• Providing technical support for Disaster Recovery arrangements.
• Representing the team at forums like SDW, MCAB, and TDA.

To be brilliant you'll bring

• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Deep knowledge of Windows and Unix Systems.
• Experience in IT risk management and ITIL framework.
• Skills in troubleshooting system integration and performance issues.
• Vendor management experience.
• Technical expertise in Windows Servers, Registry, services, event logs, scripting (PowerShell, Bash), SQL, Patch & Certificate Management.
• Experience with Unix variants (RedHat, Ubuntu, Solaris), automation, logs, deployment, and application monitoring tools.
• Understanding system architecture, databases, web servers, networking, and cloud/hybrid environments.
