Job Description

Senior Accountant, Investment and Operations Accounting

Altum Consulting are supporting a renowned global private equity investment business to recruit a Finance Manager for their investment and operational accounting division.

This business places emphasis on development, retention and inclusion operating in over 28 offices across the world, with this team in Amsterdam comprising of over 40 professionals from more than 10 different nationalities.

The investment and operations accounting team directly supports the accounting and administration of all investment-related activities as well as preparing detailed analysis across performance and opportunity in close partnership with wider stakeholders critically involved in portfolio management.

Key Responsibilities:

Transactions Processing (50%)

  • Prepare and validate transaction bookings for investments, quarterly investment valuation, and other investment-related information.
  • Perform all related tasks, including gathering sufficient information and recording transactions in the system.
  • Execute and review pre-defined analyses/checks to ensure accurate recording.
  • Review/validate a broad range of transactions and information in the system, demonstrating a general understanding of GAAP.

Reporting (20%)

  • Prepare/review and analyse monthly/quarterly and annual financial reports, including Financial Statements, Capital Accounts, and other reports for investors and management.
  • Review and analyse reports prepared by junior staff, and update/create reports/checks based on information needs.

Support to Other Teams (10%)

  • Provide financial and deal-related information and analysis to investment teams during deal closing and various stages of the investment process, both regularly and ad-hoc.
  • Supply information to other internal and external parties, such as auditors.

Manage and Control Processes (10%)

  • Safeguard the integrity of information in the accounting system through Process Ownership.
  • Control that assigned processes are executed to standard and on time by all team members.
  • As a 'process owner,' maintain oversight of assigned processes to ensure timely delivery and redistribute workload as needed.
  • Ensure proper execution of assigned processes through training and control, utilising tools like process descriptions and check reports.
  • Prepare and update process descriptions for assigned processes, taking responsibility for keeping them current and initiating/realising improvements.
  • Execute project tasks related to process improvements.

Development of Professionals (10%)

  • Assist in the professional development of junior colleagues by involving them in work.
  • Provide input to the appraisal process.

Education & Certificates

  • Bachelor / master's degree in business administration or in business economics, ideally with qualified accounting certification.
  • Good understanding of US GAAP and IFRS guidelines, including the ability to research specific accounting treatments.

Professional Experience

  • Minimum 4 years of working experience in an accounting related role, ideally in financial services.
