Senior Academic Administrator (Year 4/GE2)
Medical School Office, Academic Centre, Level 2, John Radcliffe Hospital, Headington, Oxford.
SCHOOL OF MEDICINE AND BIOMEDICAL SCIENCES
(Clinical) Medical School Office, John Radcliffe Hospital, Headington
This is a full time post based at the (Clinical) Medical School Office, Academic Centre, Level 2, John Radcliffe Hospital.
This is a fixed-term secondment post due to end at the end of July 2027. However, there is the possibility that the contract may be extended for a further period.
This post would be suitable as a secondment opportunity.
Model of working: 100% on site during the probation period. After that, a maximum of 25% remote working may be agreed.
We are seeking a highly efficient and capable Senior Academic Administrator to become a member of the academic administration team for the School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences. This post provides an excellent opportunity to develop a career in University administration.
The Senior Academic Administrator (Year 4 / GE2) will have lead responsibility for administering the first year of the University's Clinical Medicine programme (Year 4 of the standard 6-year Medicine programme). Sections of the course administered by the postholder are also taken by students in the second year of the Graduate-entry Medicine programme. In addition to organising teaching and assessment, the postholder will be responsible for the administration of the progression of students from Year 3 of the Pre-clinical course to the Clinical course, and the arrangements for their induction into the Clinical course.
There are approximately 155-160 students in each of the three years of the Clinical Medicine course, and 35-40 students on each year of the Graduate-entry Medicine programme. Teaching and examining is provided by a large number of academic and/or clinical staff, drawn from clinical and non-clinical departments across the Medical Sciences Division. Students also attend clinical placements in partner NHS Trusts, and in primary care settings. As the responsibility for teaching and examining is shared across multiple University departments, as well as the partner NHS organisations, the organisation of the course is complex.
The successful candidate for this position will have an honours degree or equivalent qualification, along with recent and direct experience of academic administrative work in Higher Education. They will have excellent administrative, organisational and analytical skills, and will have the ability to manage a broad workload in an efficient manner. They will have the ability to work systematically and to a high level of accuracy, with excellent attention to detail, even when working under pressure. They will have an excellent level of numeracy, and excellent IT skills.
To make informal enquiries about the post, please contact Mrs Laura Morgan (Clinical School Administration Manager):
The closing date for applications is 12 noon on Tuesday 25 August 2026.
