Job Description
Mechanical Engineer - Senior / Principal (Building Services)Location: Plymouth / ExeterEmployment Type: PermanentOverview A leading global multidisciplinary consultancy is strengthening its Mechanical Building Services capability across Exeter and Plymouth, supporting delivery of complex, high-profile infrastructure and defence projects. The role sits within a building services team, delivering multidisciplinary engineering solutions across defence, infrastructure, healthcare, justice, education and commercial developments. A significant proportion of workload is within secure environments requiring high technical assurance, resilience and performance-led engineering design.Key Responsibilities
- Lead mechanical building services design across all RIBA stages (0-7)
- Design HVAC systems including heating, cooling, ventilation and associated plant
- Provide technical leadership across multi-disciplinary project teams
- Produce and review calculations, specifications and detailed design outputs
- Ensure compliance with UK regulations, CIBSE guidance and internal standards
- Attend and lead client and stakeholder meetings
- Mentor and support junior engineers
- Oversee technical quality and design assurance across projects
- Contribute to BIM coordination and digital engineering processes
- Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services Engineering
- Strong consultancy experience in mechanical building services design
- Proven delivery of UK construction projects across multiple stages
- Ability to lead technical design on complex, multi-disciplinary schemes
- Chartered Engineer or working towards (required for Senior/Principal progression)
- Experience in defence or secure infrastructure advantageous
- Strong Revit / BIM capability desirable
- Work on nationally significant defence and infrastructure programmes
- Clear progression into Associate and leadership roles
