Job Title - Senior / Principal Mechanical Engineer (Building Services)Location: BirminghamType: Permanent, Full-timeRole OverviewAn opportunity for an experienced Senior or Principal Mechanical Engineer to join a growing building services team delivering technically robust and sustainable mechanical designs across a broad range of projects. The role involves leading mechanical design from concept through to delivery, supporting and mentoring engineers, and contributing to high-quality project outcomes. Alongside core mechanical services, the role will also include involvement in public health systems design.Key Responsibilities• Lead mechanical engineering design across all RIBA stages, from early feasibility through to detailed design and construction support• Deliver HVAC and building services designs including calculations, specifications, reports and schedules• Design and coordinate mechanical plant and systems to meet performance, compliance and sustainability requirements• Undertake and review public health engineering design work including domestic water services, drainage, rainwater and associated systems• Oversee and review drawings and models produced using AutoCAD and Revit• Coordinate mechanical and public health designs with electrical, structural and architectural disciplines• Act as the technical lead on projects, ensuring quality, consistency and compliance with UK standards and regulations• Mentor and support intermediate and junior engineers within the team• Attend and lead client, design team and contractor meetings as required• Provide technical input during site stages and respond to contractor queriesExperience & Skills• Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services Engineering• Senior-level experience in mechanical building services design• Strong understanding of HVAC systems, plant selection and low-carbon design solutions• Experience delivering public health systems as part of wider MEP designs• Working knowledge of UK building regulations, CIBSE guidance and industry standards• Proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit, with experience using IES or similar software beneficial• Confident communicator with the ability to manage projects and client relationships• Chartered or working toward chartership (CIBSE / IMechE) preferredWhat's on Offer• Involvement in varied and technically interesting projects across multiple sectors• Opportunity to operate at Senior or Principal level depending on experience• Clear progression and leadership opportunities within a collaborative team• Flexible and hybrid working arrangements• Support for professional development and chartership
