SEND Teaching Assistant - Primary School

Location: Gateshead
Hours: 8:30am-3:30pm, Monday-Friday
Start Date: September
Pay: £107.71 per day, based on a 6.5-hour working day

SEND Teaching Assistant - Primary School - Role

As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teaching staff to provide tailored support to pupils with autism and complex needs. Your responsibilities may include:

  • Supporting pupils with SEND in the classroom and throughout the school day
  • Providing one-to-one and small-group support
  • Implementing personalised strategies to support learning, engagement and emotional regulation
  • Encouraging communication, independence and social development
  • Supporting pupils with their individual learning and development plans
  • Working collaboratively with teachers, SEND professionals and therapists
  • Managing behaviour with patience, empathy and consistency
  • Creating a safe, inclusive and supportive learning environment
SEND Teaching Assistant - Primary School - Essential Criteria

We are looking for someone who has:

  • Experience working with children or young people, ideally within an SEN/SEND setting
  • Experience supporting pupils with autism or complex needs
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills
  • Confidence supporting behaviour in a calm, consistent and positive manner
  • A relevant degree, such as Psychology or Childhood Studies, preferred
  • A Teaching Assistant or relevant support qualification, preferred
  • Must live locally to Gateshead - no relocation
