Alumwell Infant School is seeking to appoint a committed and enthusiastic SEND Teacher to join our team.
Salary & ContractSalary: Teachers' Main Pay Scale / Upper Pay Scale (plus SEN allowance where applicable)
Contract: Permanent (full-time or part-time considered)
Location: Alumwell Infant School, Walsall
Start date: September 2026
The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching and learning across the school's Nurture Hubs, which support children with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) and additional needs. You will work closely with the SENDCo, inclusion team, senior leaders and external agencies to deliver high-quality, inclusive provision that meets statutory requirements and supports pupils to achieve their full potential.
Key duties and responsibilities- Plan, deliver and evaluate high-quality teaching and learning for pupils with SEND and EHCPs
- Lead provision within the Nurture Hubs in line with EHCP outcomes and individual support plans
- Create a nurturing, safe and inclusive learning environment
- Monitor, assess and record pupil progress, using this information to inform next steps
- Work in partnership with parents/carers, the SENDCo and external professionals
- Contribute to EHCP annual reviews and multi-agency meetings
- Provide guidance and direction to support staff working within the provision
- Promote inclusion and support pupils' reintegration into mainstream classes where appropriate
- Ensure safeguarding, health and safety and behaviour policies are implemented at all times
Essential criteria:
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
- Experience of teaching pupils with special educational needs, including EHCPs
- Knowledge of EYFS and Key Stage 1 curriculum
- Understanding of inclusive and adaptive teaching strategies
- Ability to manage behaviour using a calm, nurturing approach
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Commitment to equality, diversity and safeguarding
Desirable criteria:
- SEND qualification or specialist SEND training
- Experience of nurture provision or SEMH support
- Knowledge of trauma-informed practice
- Experience of working with external agencies
- A supportive and inclusive school community
- A strong commitment to professional development
- Opportunities to work within a well-established nurture hub
- Support from an experienced leadership and SEND team
