SEND Specialist Teaching Assistant

Axcis Education is currently recruiting for a SEND Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming and supportive specialist SEND school in Bromsgrove. This is a full-time position offering the opportunity to work closely with pupils who require additional support to access education and achieve their individual goals. This role would suit individuals with experience in education, care, youth work, support work, or anyone who has a genuine interest in supporting children and young people with additional needs.

Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am - 4:00pm. Pay Rate: £14.25 per hour.

As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teachers and other support staff to provide tailored support for pupils with a range of additional needs. These may include Autism (ASC), ADHD, SEMH needs, speech and language difficulties, learning disabilities, and complex needs. You will play an important role in creating a positive, inclusive, and engaging learning environment where pupils can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.

Key Responsibilities

• Providing 1:1 and small group support to pupils with SEND.
• Supporting pupils to access learning activities tailored to their individual needs.
• Encouraging communication, social interaction, independence, and confidence.
• Assisting with emotional regulation and promoting positive behaviour.
• Supporting pupils during classroom activities, transitions, and breaktimes.
• Following EHCP targets and individual support strategies.
• Building positive relationships with pupils, staff, and families.
• Helping maintain a safe, nurturing, and inclusive learning environment.
• Supporting with personal care where required.
• Working collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and wider school staff to meet pupils' needs.

Experience supporting individuals with SEND, challenging behaviour, or additional needs is highly desirable.

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you should have:

• Previous experience working with children or young people.
• Experience supporting individuals with SEND or additional needs.
• A patient, resilient, and empathetic approach.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• The ability to build positive relationships and adapt to individual needs.
• A genuine passion for supporting young people.
• An understanding of safeguarding responsibilities.
• An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one.
• Availability for a full-time commitment.
