SEND Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA)

About the Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join a specialist education setting supporting children and young people with additional needs. The school is dedicated to ensuring every pupil can reach their full potential, regardless of their starting point, within a nurturing and inclusive environment.

You will work as part of a skilled and supportive team, delivering tailored learning activities and supporting students with a range of needs, including autism and complex learning difficulties.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver learning activities and lessons under the guidance of a qualified teacher
  • Support pupils with special educational needs, including communication and sensory needs
  • Implement strategies such as structured interventions and visual supports
  • Promote positive behaviour and engagement in learning
  • Work collaboratively with teaching staff, therapists, and support teams
Essential Requirements
  • HLTA status or equivalent Level 4 qualification
  • Proven experience supporting children or young people with SEND, particularly autism and/or severe learning difficulties
  • Confidence in leading learning activities
  • Strong understanding of SEND strategies and interventions
Desirable Skills
  • Training in behaviour management approaches (e.g. Team Teach)
  • Experience with communication systems such as PECS, Makaton, or AAC
  • Knowledge of safeguarding procedures within education settings
