Location: Torton, Kidderminster

Contract Type: Full-time, Permanent, Term time only

Hours: Full-time, 40 hours per week

Hourly Rate:£12.87 to £14.03 per hour

Annual Salary: £22,996 to £25,068 actual salary

Aurora Wilden View is a mixed-gender school for 5-19 year old students with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and associated behaviours linked to Autistic Spectrum Conditions (ASC). Opened in February 2024, our school is set within a beautiful 20-acre site and benefits from facilities that include a Science and Technology building, a polytunnel and Forest School provision.

The Role:

As one of our Teaching Assistants, your role will be to support our teaching, learning and pastoral care. This includes supporting with care needs from time to time as well as positive behaviour management, adopting a tailored approach to the individual child. With small class sizes of up to 8 students we have the opportunity to build strong, successful relationships and ensure every child has the best chance to reach their full potential in a caring and safe environment.

You will be expected to establish a warm, caring and supportive relationship with pupils in order to support them feeling safe, leading to their enjoyment and discovery of others and the world around them. You would be promoting and encouraging study skills, social skills, personal development while maintaining high expectations of behaviour at all times.

You will support the class teacher and contribute to providing high quality, challenging and adaptive educational activities and experiences through supporting the teaching of a broad and balanced curriculum aimed at pupils achieving their full potential in all areas of learning.

Working Hours

  • 40 hours per week, term time only
  • Start time: 8.30am
  • Finish times: 4.30pm Monday to Thursday, 3.45pm Friday
  • Includes 2.5 hours per week for ongoing training, development and additional duties

Experience & Qualifications:

Qualifications:

  • GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths at Grade C/4 or above, or Functional Skills qualifications
  • Willingness to undertake relevant training and continuous professional development
  • Full clean driving licence

Desirable:

  • Level 2 Certificate or Diploma in Supporting Teaching and Learning (or equivalent)
  • Experience or training in SEMH, autism, attachment-informed practice or trauma-informed approaches
  • Experience within an education setting
  • Understanding of the Safeguarding principles and Child Protection procedures

Knowledge and Experience:

    • Experience supporting children or young people with SEMH and/or ASC, ideally within a specialist setting (or a strong interest in developing this expertise)
    • The ability to build positive, trusting relationships that help pupils feel safe and understood
    • Experience supporting learning activities planned by the Class Teacher, including working with individuals and small groups
    • Confidence supporting pupils who may display behaviours that challenge, using de-escalation strategies and clear boundaries
    • An understanding of the importance of structure, routines and positive behaviour support
    • The ability to follow behaviour support plans, risk assessments and guidance from teaching and pastoral staff
    • A collaborative approach to working with teachers, therapists and other professionals
    • Good communication skills and the ability to maintain accurate records as required
