About the Role

Are you a teacher who believes every young person deserves to feel seen, valued, and capable of success? Do you thrive in a setting where relationships are just as important as results?

We are looking for a passionate, resilient, and creative SEN Teacher to join a specialist Alternative Provision setting in Nottingham. You'll be working with pupils aged 7-19 who may have SEND, SEMH needs, or who have become disengaged from mainstream education.

This is a unique opportunity to deliver meaningful, personalised teaching that re-engages learners and supports them to rebuild confidence, develop life skills, and achieve positive outcomes.

About the Provision

This setting is part of a well-established specialist education provider that focuses on supporting young people who are "hard to place" or have become disconnected from traditional education pathways.

  • Offers flexible, personalised learning programmes tailored to individual needs and interests
  • Combines academic, vocational, and life-skills education to support long-term outcomes
  • Works with pupils with a range of needs, including SEND, SEMH, ASC, and other complex barriers to learning
  • Strong focus on engagement, relationships, and wellbeing as the foundation for learning

What Teaching Looks Like Here

  • Small class sizes (typically 3-6 learners) to enable personalised teaching
  • Opportunities for 1:1 teaching and tailored interventions
  • TA support available, including targeted 1:1 support
  • A relational and restorative approach to behaviour management
  • A holistic curriculum combining academic, personal, and life skills
  • Freedom to be creative, flexible, and innovative in your teaching

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver engaging, differentiated lessons across the curriculum
  • Set personalised targets and track progress through baseline assessments
  • Support pupils' academic, emotional, and social development
  • Use restorative and relational approaches to behaviour and engagement
  • Create a safe, inclusive, and structured learning environment
  • Work collaboratively with families, external agencies, and multi-disciplinary teams
  • Contribute to curriculum development and resource planning
  • Maintain high standards of safeguarding at all times

About You

Essential:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), PGCE or equivalent
  • Ability to teach a subject area (Maths at KS3/KS4 or Functional Skills desirable)
  • Strong relationship-building skills and a pupil-centred approach
  • Resilient, reflective, and committed to professional development
  • Confident using behaviour strategies to support engagement
  • Full UK driving licence

Desirable:

  • Experience in SEN, SEMH, or alternative provision

Why Join?

  • Make a genuine difference to young people needing a fresh start
  • Teach in a setting that prioritises relationships over rigid structures
  • Small classes = greater impact and meaningful connections
  • Be part of a supportive, collaborative team
  • Opportunity to bring your personality, creativity, and passions into the classroom
  • Work for a provider that values innovation, wellbeing, and individual success
