SEN Outreach Tutor (English & Maths)

Location: Barking and Dagenham Pay: From £25 per hour Start: ASAP

Prospero Teaching is seeking an experienced SEN Specialist Tutor to deliver 1:1 English and Maths support to children and young people who are currently unable to access mainstream education.

You will provide bespoke, individualised learning programmes for pupils with a range of needs, including ASD, ADHD, SEMH, learning difficulties and anxiety-based school avoidance. Many learners may have been out of education for some time and require support with confidence, engagement, and routine.

This role is ideal for an experienced teacher or SEN tutor who enjoys working outside the classroom and making a direct, positive impact.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver tailored 1:1 English and Maths sessions
• Adapt teaching to meet a range of SEN needs
• Support engagement, confidence, and emotional regulation
• Monitor progress and adjust learning plans
• Work closely with Prospero Teaching and other professionals

Contract Details

• Temporary / Contract role
• Flexible hours: 1-3 hours per session
• Part-time or full-time available
• Duration dependent on pupil needs
• Local placements across Barking and Dagenham

Requirements Essential

• Experience supporting children or young people with SEN
• Ability to teach English and Maths
• Strong communication and adaptability

Desirable

• QTS, PGCE, QTLS or equivalent
• 6+ months' experience in a UK school, SEN setting or alternative provision
• Safeguarding training (or willingness to complete)

Eligibility

• Right to Work in the UK
• Enhanced DBS (or willingness to apply)
• Two professional child-related references (last two years)
