SEMH Learning Support Assistant

Are you passionate about supporting children with social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs?

Do you have the patience, resilience, and enthusiasm to help pupils overcome barriers to learning and reach their full potential?

Academics is working with a welcoming primary school in Slough that is looking to appoint an SEMH Learning Support Assistant to join their dedicated team. This is a rewarding opportunity to provide tailored support to pupils who require additional emotional, behavioural, and learning support within a nurturing and inclusive school environment.

As an SEMH Learning Support Assistant, you will work closely with pupils on a 1:1 basis and in small groups, helping them build confidence, regulate their emotions, and engage positively with learning throughout the school day.

Your responsibilities will include:
  • Supporting pupils with SEMH needs through tailored 1:1 and small group interventions
  • Encouraging children to develop emotional regulation, resilience, and positive coping strategies
  • Working collaboratively with teachers, the SENCO, and pastoral staff to deliver consistent support
  • Implementing behaviour support strategies and contributing to personalised intervention plans
  • Promoting a positive, inclusive, and emotionally supportive learning environment
  • Building strong relationships with pupils to encourage engagement, independence, and personal growth
We're looking for someone who:
  • Is patient, compassionate, and committed to supporting children with additional needs
  • Has excellent communication and relationship-building skills
  • Is proactive, adaptable, and confident working with pupils who require extra emotional support
  • Is considering a future career in teaching, educational psychology, counselling, youth work, social work, or another child-focused profession

This role offers invaluable experience within a supportive primary school and is ideal for graduates or aspiring education professionals looking to develop practical SEMH and SEN experience before progressing into teaching, psychology, or therapeutic careers.

If you're interested in this SEMH Learning Support Assistant opportunity, we'd love to hear from you. Apply today with your updated CV or contact Ryan Pike at Academics Ltd on for more information.
