SEMH Learning Mentor
Posted 3 hours 26 minutes ago by Career Choices Dewis Gyrfa Ltd
It's learning that someone believes in them.
At this specialist secondary alternative provision in Bolton, every day is about giving young people another chance to succeed.
Many of the students have faced significant challenges in education and life.
Some have struggled with anxiety, trauma or emotional regulation.
Others have lost confidence in themselves or found mainstream education overwhelming.
What they all have in common is potential.
Cover People is looking for an outstanding SEMH Learning Mentor to become one of the trusted adults who helps students rediscover that potential.
If you're someone who remains calm when others become frustrated, who understands that behaviour is communication, and who genuinely enjoys helping young people overcome barriers, this could be the role where you make the greatest impact of your career.
This specialist alternative provision is built on relationships, respect and fresh starts.
Class sizes are intentionally small, allowing staff to really get to know every student and provide the individual support they need to succeed.
The school combines high expectations with empathy, creating an environment where young people feel safe enough to take risks, rebuild confidence and engage with learning again.
Staff work collaboratively, celebrating every breakthrough-whether that's attending lessons consistently, managing emotions more positively or achieving academic success.
This is far more than classroom support.
You'll become a mentor, role model and advocate for young people who need consistency, encouragement and someone who refuses to give up on them.
Working alongside teachers, pastoral leaders and therapeutic professionals, you'll help students develop not only academically but emotionally and socially too.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Building genuine, trusting relationships that help students feel safe, understood and respected
- Supporting learning within the classroom while adapting your approach to individual needs
- Providing one-to-one and small group mentoring throughout the school day
- Helping students regulate emotions using restorative and trauma-informed approaches
- Encouraging positive behaviour through patience, consistency and positive reinforcement
- Supporting students to develop resilience, confidence and independence
- Assisting teachers with personalised learning activities that engage and motivate
- Working closely with pastoral teams, families and external professionals to ensure consistent support
- Celebrating every achievement, no matter how small, and helping young people recognise their own progress We're interested in people who naturally build relationships and see beyond behaviour.
You may already have experience working with:
- Young people with SEMH needs
- SEND or specialist education
- Alternative provision
- Youth work
- Children's residential care
- Sports coaching
- Community projects
- Mental health or pastoral support Most importantly, you'll bring empathy, resilience and a genuine commitment to helping young people succeed.
You'll be someone who:
- Stays calm and positive in challenging situations
- Understands that every behaviour has a reason
- Builds trust through consistency and respect
- Communicates confidently and professionally
- Believes every young person deserves the opportunity to succeed
- Enjoys working collaboratively within a supportive team Team Teach training is welcomed but not essential.
For many students, school hasn't always been a positive experience.
You'll be part of the team helping change that story.
Every conversation, every encouraging word and every positive interaction has the potential to help a young person rebuild confidence, improve their wellbeing and believe in their future again.
It's challenging work
- but it's also incredibly rewarding.
When you register with Cover People, you'll receive more than just a placement.
We'll support you throughout your journey and help you develop your career within education.
- Competitive daily rates of £95-£110, depending on experience
- Weekly pay
- Free CPD and professional development opportunities
- A dedicated consultant providing ongoing support
- Opportunities to secure long-term and permanent positions
- The chance to make a genuine and lasting difference every single day If you're ready to inspire, encourage and help young people discover what they're capable of, we'd love to hear from you.
