Job title: Secondary English Teacher
Location: Oakham Shires School, Rutland, LE15 6JB
Salary: £39,000 per annum (not pro rata)
Hours: 37.5 hours per week Monday to Friday 8.30am - 4.30pm
Contract: Permanent Term Time
Start: September 2026

As a Secondary English Teacher, you'll deliver engaging, creative and highly personalised lessons that support academic achievement while nurturing confidence, communication and independence.

Working closely with colleagues, families and our clinical team, you'll help create an autism-friendly learning environment where every pupil feels understood, valued and empowered to succeed.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Delivering engaging English lessons that inspire a love of reading, writing and communication
  • Supporting pupils with Autism and additional needs to achieve their full potential
  • Planning, assessing and monitoring progress to ensure outstanding outcomes
  • Working collaboratively with teaching assistants, therapists and families
  • Using innovative and autism-specific teaching strategies to maximise engagement
  • Setting ambitious targets and supporting pupils to achieve meaningful progress
  • Creating a safe, inclusive and nurturing learning environment
  • Contributing to curriculum development and whole-school improvement initiatives

About You

We're looking for someone who is:

  • Qualified with a Degree and UK QTS
  • Passionate about English and inclusive education
  • Experienced in working with young people with Autism, SEN and complex needs
  • Creative, adaptable and able to inspire learners of all abilities
  • A confident communicator who builds strong relationships
  • Calm, resilient and positive when faced with challenges
  • Committed to safeguarding and promoting pupil wellbeing
  • Dedicated to continuous professional development and excellence in teaching
  • Full UK Driving Licence (Desirable)

Oakham Shires School is an independent SEN school, part of Options Autism, providing a nurturing environment for autistic children and young people with associated needs.
