Job Description

SEN Teaching Assistant

Location: Redhill

Contract Type: Permanent

Salary: £13.51 - £14.45 per hour

Hours: 40 hours per week, Term Time only (Start time 8.15am. Finish time Monday/Tuesday/Wednesday 4.45pm, Thursday 5pm, and Friday 4pm)

Reed is excited to partner with a newly opened SEND Secondary School Redhill. This school is dedicated to supporting young people aged 11-16 who require assistance with social communication, emotional regulation, and sensory processing, typically associated with Autism. The school offers a tailored curriculum designed to meet the needs, interests, and passions of each student, ensuring every opportunity to achieve is provided.

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Take responsibility for safeguarding and promoting the welfare and positive wellbeing of pupils according to the school's policies, including safeguarding and PREVENT.
  • Provide meaningful feedback on pupil behaviour, relationships, and attitudes.
  • Support positive behaviour and concentration levels of the children and adapt own behaviour and responses to any change or escalations in behaviour of the children.
  • Establish a positive relationship with pupils to support them in feeling safe and enabling them to enjoy and learn.
  • Promote and encourage independence and personal development and maintain high expectations of behaviour at all times and support in the achievement of this.
  • Implement, and when appropriate, adjust learning activities as agreed with the teacher. Reinforce learning concepts presented by teachers.
  • Support learning by arranging/providing resources for lessons/activities under the direction of the teacher.
  • Implement learning activities and experiences, appropriate to the class group, by supporting the delivery of a broad and balanced curriculum aiming at pupils achieving their full potential in all areas of learning.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • GCSE Maths and English qualification minimum Grade 4 or equivalent is essential.
  • L2 award in supporting teaching and learning in schools or equivalent or willingness to work towards.
  • Previous experience of working within a relevant SEND Provision is desirable but not essential.
  • Understanding of the Safeguarding principles and Child Protection procedures.
  • Experience of managing a range of approaches to behaviour, including managing behaviours that challenge.
  • Experience working within education is advantageous.
  • Experience of working within a multi-cultural, inclusive setting.
