Scientific Officer (Clean Water Chemistry)

Role Description

The Laboratory is responsible for the collection and analysis of water, wastewater, trade effluent, sludge and soils. The work covers a wide range of determinants and includes trace metals, organics, general pollution indicators nutrients and microbiology. Both NI Water laboratories hold accreditation to ISO 17025 standard and the Clean Water Chemistry Laboratory additionally is accredited to the Drinking Water Testing Specification (DWTS). The post holder will be responsible for carrying out chemical analysis of water matrices.

Candidates MUST be able to demonstrate in their application and where necessary at interview that they meet the following, essential criteria:

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA

1. Do you hold a third-level qualification (HNC/HND/Degree) in Science/Chemistry/Environmental Science

Please include:

• Title of the qualification and awarding institution
• Dates of study (start and end)
• Identification of all modules studied, including Module description

2. Do you have at least 12 months' practical analytical chemistry experience in an ISO17025 accredited laboratory or a lab operating under a Quality Management System?

Please include:

• The name of the laboratory or organisation
• The dates of experience/employment (start and end)
• A brief description of your analytical chemistry duties
• Confirmation of the ISO17025 accreditation or the type of Quality Management System in place

3. Experience of Health and Safety requirements relevant to laboratories.

4. Demonstrable experience of proficiency in using Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).

DESIRABLE CRITERIA

In the event of a large number of applications, in the first instance, candidates may be short-listed on the following desirable criteria:

1. A practical knowledge of water industry water chemical analysis.

This Band 6b role offers a competitive remuneration package with a salary scale of £29,863 - £36,499 per annum

The starting salary will normally be at the first point of the scale. Salaries are reviewed annually effective 1st April.
