SENIOR SCALA ENGINEER
  • £590 per day via Umbrella
  • 6-12 month contract
  • Stratford, London - hybrid remote working
  • SC clearance required
ABOUT THE CLIENT

Our client is a major UK public sector organisation delivering digital services that help protect taxpayer data and prevent fraudulent activity. Their specialist data teams use large-scale transaction data to identify patterns, assess risk and provide insights that support fraud detection and prevention.

THE SENIOR SCALA ENGINEER ROLE:

As a Senior Scala Engineer, you will help define and shape the delivery of front-end services and APIs that provide attribute insights to support fraud detection and prevention.

You will help design the future vision for these services, including consolidation and incremental re-architecting, with a focus on high-volume, high-availability and low-latency services. You will improve existing services while reducing maintenance overhead through simpler architectures and the appropriate use of managed services.

You will design and develop clean, testable backend code, build effective APIs, and develop and manage reliable databases and applications with appropriate security and data protection controls.

Working closely with Product Owners, Business Analysts, Data Engineers and wider technical teams, you will collaborate on software solutions and work in a lean, agile, "you build it, you run it" environment.

SENIOR SCALA ENGINEER ESSENTIAL SKILLS:
  • Strong commercial experience with Scala
  • Experience with Play Framework or other MVC/REST API frameworks
  • Strong SQL and database experience
  • Hands-on experience with AWS
  • Experience developing and consuming REST APIs
  • Experience working within Continuous Integration environments
  • Strong understanding of Agile methodologies
  • Experience with testing and automation
  • Awareness of Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) principles and support
  • Experience troubleshooting incidents and restoring services following outages
  • Experience working in a you build it, you run it environment
  • Strong collaborative and stakeholder communication skills
  • Desirable: Docker/containerisation, Jenkins, Kibana, Grafana and Airflow.
