Scala Backend Developer (Contract)

Onsite in Malmö

Rolling 6-month contract

Rate negotiable

We're seeking an experienced Scala Backend Developer to join a high-performing team working on large-scale data systems. You'll be responsible for developing algorithms to match, conflate, and detect anomalies in complex datasets, while continuously improving system scalability, efficiency, and data freshness.

This role involves working across the full data pipeline, helping to streamline processes, automate workflows, and contribute to the design of new features and solutions. You'll be expected to take initiative, identify areas for improvement, and apply creative problem-solving to deliver robust, high-quality systems.

Key responsibilities:

  • Develop and optimise Back End systems using Scala
  • Build and enhance data processing pipelines and algorithms
  • Improve performance, scalability, and turnaround time of data systems
  • Identify opportunities for automation and process improvements
  • Collaborate on system design and architecture

Key requirements:

  • Strong experience with Scala and the JVM ecosystem
  • Solid background in Back End development and system design
  • Experience with big data technologies (eg Spark, ETL, streaming)
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong communication skills in English

Nice to have:

  • Experience with event streaming (eg Kafka)
  • API and REST service design
  • Knowledge of NoSQL databases
  • Exposure to Machine Learning or AI on large datasets

This is an onsite role based in Malmö. Candidates should be willing to relocate if not already local.
