Orchard Surgery is a long established and friendly nine thousand patient practice in the lovely market town of Horsham West Sussex. We are looking for a salaried GP to join our team due to colleague relocation.
Orchard is a SystmOne practice. We have embraced the Total Triage model since June 2025 reducing our routine appointment waits from five weeks to two and a half weeks and seeing all patients who have an urgent condition on the day. Our standard face to face appointment is twenty minutes recognising the need to address increasing levels of medical and social complexity in our population.
We are educators of the whole multidisciplinary team encouraging our staff to develop their individual skills and extend their roles within the practice. We are leading the development of a Womens Health Hub for Horsham District neighbourhood. We run menopause group consultation for our PCN and a menopause cafe in the community and Womens Health Hub Information evenings.
We are one of two practices in Park and Orchard PCN with a co clinical director in each practice. The PCN staff include paramedics a social prescriber mental health practitioners care coordinators a first contact practitioner clinical pharmacists and pharm techs. We use in house remote clinical pharmacists to provide medication reviews and have a robust long term condition annual recall system in place.
Job responsibilitiesProvide general medical services to registered patients, including consultations, telephone triage, home visits, and clinical administration.
Undertake assessment, diagnosis, investigation, treatment, and management of patients with acute and long-term conditions.
Maintain accurate, timely, and complete patient records in accordance with GMC and practice requirements.
Prescribe medication and treatments in line with current legislation and clinical guidance.
Participate in the management of patients with complex and multiple health needs.
Contribute to the achievement of Quality and Outcomes Framework (QOF), Enhanced Services, and other performance targets.
Participate in practice clinical governance activities including audit, significant event review, and risk management.
Attend and contribute to practice meetings, multi-disciplinary team meetings, and safeguarding processes as required.
Comply with safeguarding responsibilities for both adults and children.
Work in accordance with infection control, information governance, confidentiality, and health and safety policies.
Participate in appraisal and revalidation processes, maintaining appropriate continuing professional development.
Person Specification Qualifications- Fully registered with the GMC and licensed to practise
- Inclusion on the NHS England Medical Performers List
- Evidence of ongoing professional development
- Experience of managing patients in a primary care setting
- Experience of acute and chronic disease management
- Experience of preventative care and health promotion
- Understanding of primary care and the GP contract
- Awareness of safeguarding procedures for adults and children
- Knowledge of QOF, Enhanced Services, and national primary care targets
- Excellent clinical and consultation skills
- Ability to make sound clinical decisions based on evidence
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills
- Good organisational and time management skills
- Ability to work independently and within a team
- Commitment to high-quality patient care and safety
- Flexibility to meet the needs of the practice
- Willingness to engage in appraisal, CPD, and revalidation processes
- Additional postgraduate qualifications in specialist areas
- Previous salaried or partner GP role
- Experience of teaching, mentoring, or training students/trainees
- Experience of audit, clinical governance, and quality improvement work
- IT literacy with primary care systems (SystmOne)
- Skills or interest in service development or leadership
- Interest in developing a specialist clinical area
- Willingness to take on additional responsibilities within the practice
