Salaried GP - North House Surgery

We are seeking a dedicated Salaried GP for 5 sessions per week on a Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday AM to join our team at North House Surgery, working under the umbrella of Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust. This role is based at our Ripon site and has been created to meet growing demand for General Practice services.

The successful candidate will manage a personal caseload and deliver high-quality, patient-centred care across a broad spectrum of health needs in a primary care setting. This includes providing clinical services to both registered and temporary patients, ensuring the delivery of safe, effective, and compassionate care.

The service is currently delivered by 8 substantive salaried GPs and the Clinical Lead.

Main duties of the job

Work in accordance with the agreed practice timetable, undertaking a range of clinical duties including face to face consultations, telephone consultations, home visits, repeat prescription authorisation, and administrative tasks.

Exercise professional, autonomous clinical judgment in managing presenting problems, whether self referred or referred by other healthcare professionals.

Assess patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed presentations, formulating appropriate management plans.

Conduct health screening and risk assessments for early detection of disease.

Develop patient centred care plans aligned with current disease management protocols.

Provide counselling, advice, and health promotion to support lifestyle changes and wellbeing.

Admit or discharge patients from the GP caseload and refer to other care providers where clinically appropriate.

Maintain clear, timely, and comprehensive consultation records in line with practice standards.

Collect and submit clinical data to support audit and quality improvement initiatives.

Issue computer generated prescriptions for acute and repeat medications, avoiding handwritten prescriptions where possible.

Undertake the full range of duties expected of a GP working within a modern, patient centred primary care setting.

Job responsibilities

Undertake a variety of duties as per the practice timetable, including face to face and telephone consultations, home visits, prescribing, and handling clinical correspondence in a timely manner.

Provide professional, autonomous clinical decisions in relation to patient care, whether self referred or referred by other healthcare professionals.

Assess and manage patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems, including screening for disease risk factors and early signs of illness.

Develop care plans in line with current disease management protocols, involving patients in decisions about their care.

Provide health promotion, education, and counselling as appropriate.

Admit or discharge patients from the caseload and refer to other care providers when necessary.

Maintain accurate, contemporaneous clinical records in accordance with practice standards.

Compile and issue prescriptions using electronic systems and prescribe in line with the practice formulary.

Support data collection and participate in clinical audits as required.

Maintain the highest standards of clinical care and contribute to overall practice performance.

Identify and postpone quality or safety issues to relevant team members.

Take responsibility for clinical leadership and supervision of nursing and support staff within the team.

Work effectively within the wider multidisciplinary team (MDT), supporting joint care plans and continuity of care.

Explore opportunities for service modernisation, including preventative care initiatives and support for community led or secondary care interface models.

Provide expert advice to Trust or practice leadership on medical service development and strategic planning.

Participate in the recruitment of clinical and support staff and assist HR in applying employment policies and procedures.

Person Specification
  • Medical Degree (MBBS, MBChB or equivalent) and entry on the GMC General Practitioner Register
  • UK recognised CCT in General Practice or equivalent experience if trained outside of the UK
  • Inclusion on the GP Performers list
  • Willingness to participate in undergraduate and post graduate teaching
  • Five years supervised training in an appropriate training programme
  • Teaching or supervision qualification
