Job Description

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join Hightown Surgery as an ARRS GP, initially as maternity cover (possibility of extension).

We are a thriving, friendly, partner-led, training practice (6 partners, 4 salaried) who strive to offer the best aspects of traditional General Practice, whilst taking advantage of new opportunities and novel ways of working for the benefit of our patients and loyal team.

List size is 12,300 patients. Purpose-built premises, 15 mins from train station. Our multi-disciplinary team includes a strong pharmacy team (pharmacists, pharm techs, meds mgmt clerks), full nursing team (PNs, HCAs, Phlebotomist), ANP, Physiotherapist and Social Prescriber. We train ST1 - 3s and host Oxford University Med Students. Excellent local visiting service (so few GP visits). Experienced data team deal with most correspondence, minimising GP admin. Our Patient Services Team do basic care navigation (currently finessing our clinical triage system with our ANP).

Banbury is a market town on the edge of the beautiful countryside of the Cotswolds, close to Oxford, Stratford upon Avon, Warwick and Bicester Village. Good choice of schools (state and private). Excellent transport links to London, Birmingham & rest of the UK both by rail & motorway.

Main duties of the job

To perform as an autonomous general practitioner working independently and with other healthcare professionals to assess, diagnose and treat the conditions of patients attending within a primary care setting. Provide expert professional advice to patients, carers and colleagues and ensure the maintenance of clinical excellence. To be involved in the provision of education and training to GP ST3s and other staff. To be professionally accountable and responsible for all elements of clinical practice in accordance with the GMC code of conduct, ensuring the safety of patients and quality of their care is primary.

You will be well supported by the regular GPs in the practice.

About us

Due to the changes in the ARRS Scheme to introduce General Practitioners, we are looking to expand our team by seeking to employ a newly qualified General Practitioner (within 2 years of CCT).

Banbury Alliance PCN is made up of three GP Practices with a weighted list size of 29,000. Based in BOB ICB, the Network covers the market town of Banbury and some surrounding villages.

Hightown Surgery

This position will be working for Hightown Surgery.

Days of the week worked are negotiable. The day (two sessions) would consist of 25 patients face-to-face or telephone calls in line with BMA safe working. The patients will be a mix of acute and routine. We use a triage system for all requests for urgent care and offer appointments based on most urgent and appropriate need. You must have completed your training within the last two years and are not currently or have not previously been employed in a substantive post.

Job responsibilities

In accordance with the practice rota, as agreed, the post-holder will make him/her-self available to undertake a variety of duties including surgery consultations, telephone consultations and queries, visiting patients at home, checking and signing/authorising repeat prescriptions and dealing with queries, paperwork and correspondence in a timely fashion.

Making professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, whether self-referred or referred from other healthcare workers within the organisation.

Assessing the healthcare needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems.

Screening patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness.

In consultation with patients and in line with current practice disease management protocols, developing care plans for health.

Admitting or discharging patients to and from the caseload and referring to other care providers as appropriate.

Recording clear and contemporaneous consultation notes to agreed standards.

Compiling and issuing computer-generated acute and repeat prescriptions.

Prescribing in accordance with the ICB prescribing formulary whenever this is clinically appropriate.

The post-holder may be expected to take part in the Enhanced access rota.

The post-holder will undertake a fair share of home visits per week as per practice arrangements. There is a local visiting service, so it is anticipated that acute visiting will be rarely needed. However, planned visits will be undertaken during the Frailty session as part of anticipatory care planning for this group of patients.

  • Qualified GP
  • MRCGP
  • General Practitioner Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT)

  • National Performers List registration (England), noting that confirmation on this list is adequate for DBS confirmation
  • Appropriate defence indemnity (MPS/MDU)
  • Evidence of current validation
  • Evidence of last appraisal
  • Eligibility to practice in the UK independently
Experience
  • Experience of working in a primary care environment
  • Experience of continued professional development
  • Experience of QOF and clinical audit
  • Newly Qualified General Practitioner within 2 years of qualification
  • Not previously employed substantively at a GP Practice
  • General understanding of the primary care contract
  • Interest in Frailty / experience in General Medicine, Palliative Care
