CONTRACT TYPE: 12 month FTC, beginning November 2025
DEPARTMENT: Safety, Security and Resilience
LOCATION: this role can be based in any of the following bases London/Birmingham/Cardiff/Salford Glasgow with some flexibility - i.e. hybrid working
PROPOSED SALARY RANGE: £35,000-£45,000 depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights. The successful candidate that is London based will also receive £5,319 London Weighting allowance.

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

The BBC SSR (Safety, Security and Resilience) Group exists to help get programmes made for TV, Radio and On-Line: by finding safe and healthy ways to enable the creation of the distinctive and world-class content that our audiences demand; by ensuring that our people, productions and premises remain safe, secure and on air. The SSR Group is made up of specialists in Corporate Security, Investigations, Safety, Safeguarding, High Risk Safety, Facilities Management and Business Resilience and Continuity.

This SSR Advisor role will be part of the BBC Safety team, responsible for providing specialist and operational health and safety support across the BBC as a second line function.

YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT:

As an SSR Advisor in the Safety team, you will:

  • establish effective professional relationships with key operational contacts and senior managers across the divisions and teams you advise.
  • identify ways of meeting the business/production/facilities requirements, whilst ensuring health and safety requirements are met.
    encourage a culture of continuous improvement in safety performance by pro-active coaching of staff and seeking assurance in various areas of the business.
  • deliver training on risk assessment and other core safety topics as directed and support the development and review of training courses/materials.
  • provide excellent advisory services as part of the Safety Advice Line and the Out Of Hours service.
  • be aligned with the BBCs values, demonstrating the energy and passion to achieve company objectives.
  • keep up to date with regulatory and industry updates, along with own CPD to remain current and up to date in the profession.
  • work to the SSR Safety Manager to respond to projects and tasks, including writing guidance when required.
  • will investigate and report on incidents.

YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Relevant Safety Qualification (NCRQ/NEBOSH/MSc/EHO)
  • Relevant professional level (e.g. have or working towards CMIOSH, CEnvH)
  • Demonstrable experience of delivering safety advisory.
  • Demonstrable experience of undertaking safety assurance.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organisational and influencing skills.
  • Experience of effectively managing projects with stakeholders.
  • A fantastic team player: BBC Safety work as a team to support and enable the whole organisation.
  • Excellent writing, reporting and data literacy skills.
