Location: Sandwell Council House, Freeth St Oldbury B69 3DE
We are looking for an enthusiastic and customer-focused Revenues & Benefits Officer to join our Council Tax Billing Team.
This role is vital in ensuring Council Tax accounts are administered accurately and efficiently, providing advice and support to residents while delivering a high-quality service in line with legislation, service standards and Council policies.
You will be part of a supportive and collaborative team committed to helping customers access the right support, understand their responsibilities and resolve enquiries effectively.
The post is offered on a fixed-term basis for 2 years.
The opportunityYou will process Council Tax billing information including liability changes, discounts, exemptions and disregards. You will provide guidance and advice to customers and their representatives by telephone, email, written correspondence and face-to-face contact. You will support the administration of Council Tax accounts, ensuring information is processed accurately and within service standards. You will contribute to the delivery of an efficient and customer-focused Revenues & Benefits service that supports the residents of Sandwell.
You will- Process information in accordance with Council Tax legislation, regulations, Council policies and working practices.
- Maintain accurate customer records using the Council's Revenues & Benefits systems.
- Assist customers with Council Tax enquiries, discounts, exemptions, disregards and payment arrangements.
- Deal with correspondence, customer enquiries and requests promptly and professionally.
- Support the resolution of disputes and appeals in accordance with service procedures.
- Contribute to service performance targets through accurate and timely processing.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant legislation, processes and service standards.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues to support team objectives and service improvements.
- Provide guidance and support to less experienced colleagues where appropriate.
- Liaise with customers, representatives and partner organisations to achieve positive outcomes.
- Experience of working within a Revenues & Benefits service or a busy customer service environment.
- Experience of working independently and as part of a team.
- Good knowledge of computerised systems and Microsoft-based applications.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to deal effectively with customers both verbally and in writing.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy when processing information.
- Good numerical aptitude and keyboard skills.
- The ability to prioritise workloads and work to performance targets and deadlines.
- A flexible, proactive and customer-focused approach.
- A willingness to undertake training and continually develop professional knowledge.
