Enable Ireland is an equal opportunity employer that prides itself on fair, respectful and inclusive practice. We are seeking highly motivated Respite Support Workers to join our Carlow/Kilkenny Respite Service and help expand our after school day respite programme.

Contract Type: Permanent

Contract Hours: Full time, Part time & relief contracts available

Salary Scale: €35,070 - €42,440 pro rata per annum (subject to Long Service Increments)

Annual Leave Entitlement: 30 days pro rata per annum; 10.7% of hours worked for relief contracts

Overview of the Post

The role supports children and young people in a respite setting, working in partnership with families to meet identified needs during their stay. The post is integral to the launch of the after school day respite programme for the year.

Overview of Duties
  • Create an inclusive environment that promotes choice, decision making and independence for each child.
  • Implement agreed programmes of care, ensuring each individual's varying needs are met with dignity and respect.
  • Collaborate with the respite manager to enable participation in daily activities, leisure pursuits, and therapy/education within the home and community.
  • Guide the safe use and maintenance of special equipment.
  • Monitor and meet each person's health and medical needs.
  • Ensure a healthy diet that respects special dietary requirements.
  • Practice sensitivity when interacting closely with families and service users.
  • Provide personal care, including intimate personal care, where required.
  • Accompany children on outings and leisure activities.
  • Facilitate community involvement by arranging suitable community based activities.
The Successful Candidate Will Have
  • Formal qualification in Health Care at FETAC/QQI Level 5 NVQ, City and Guilds, or equivalent.
  • At least one year of experience working with children.
  • Experience within a disability service.
  • Full manual driving licence and access to own transport.
  • Commitment to partnership work with parents/carers and children.
  • Experience working with challenging teenagers.
  • Awareness of HIQA standards.
  • Good knowledge of child protection and child development.
