This is a 6 month post based at University College Hospital in the Gastroenterology Department.
This is a unique opportunity to join a large tertiary gastroenterology unit and gain experience looking after a wide range of patients including IBD, nutrition, hepatology, pancreatobiliary medicine and upper GI.

The post-holder contribute to inpatient care on the ward, contribute to specialist MDT and have opportunities to gain experience in upper and lower GI endoscopy, GI physiology and other specialist GI services.

The role will include protected time for clinical audit, service improvement and research.

This is a perfect opportunity for candidates considering applying to gastroenterology specialist training in the future who have already completed at least FY2.

Main duties of the job Our UCLH Gastroenterology unit is one of the largest in the UK, and the post offer exposure to all aspects of Gastroenterology, covered by the 14 Consultants within the department. Subspecialty areas of expertise include clinical nutrition/intestinal failure, oesophagogastric/laser medicine, inflammatory bowel disease, GI physiology and pancreaticobiliary medicine. There are a number of educational meetings run each week, including a journal club, specialist multidisciplinary meetings, a 'morning report', and seminars with invited speakers. The department has a committed audit programme. The post holder may also take an active role in undergraduate teaching.

Person specification Knowledge and Qualifications

• MBBS or equivalent Full registration
• - Eligible for full registration with GMC at time of appointment and hold a current license to practice.
• MRCP Part 1 or completed

Experience

• Minimum 2 years previous experience in a substantive medical post of SHO level or above.
• Completed FY2 training and core training CT1 in Gastroenterology Please give hospital details

Skills and Abilities

• Sound basic clinical skills including history taking, clinical examination and appropriate investigation
• Ability to make and implement management plans and clinical protocols.
• Ability to maintain a high quality clinical record.
• Basic personal management skills including time management and managing paperwork satisfactorily.
• Manipulative skills to enable practical procedures
• Experience of teaching
• Ability to carry out research

Communication

• Ability to communicate with clarity to all hospital staff and patients

• Ability to communicate with clarity and intelligently in written and spoken English
• Ability to build rapport, listen, persuade/ negotiate.

Specific Requirements
