Research Technician - Alternative Protein Biomanufacturing

Overview

Join the National Alternative Protein Innovation Centre (NAPIC), a £38m entity, to advance alternative protein research and collaborate with industry partners.

Main duties and responsibilities
  • Provide high quality technical service, including cost estimates and timescales for jobs and materials.
  • Perform routine laboratory support: media and buffer preparation, fermenter preparation, equipment calibration, waste disposal, etc.
  • Operate and maintain general and specialist technical equipment; participate in developing, testing and constructing new equipment or techniques.
  • Commission experimental apparatus, conduct testing, record and disseminate data.
  • Offer technical advice and training to staff, students and visitors while ensuring health and safety compliance.
  • Contribute to short term projects within the work area or as part of larger project teams.
  • Maintain awareness of health and safety rules, perform risk assessments, maintain training records, liaise with the School Safety Officer.
  • Carry out other duties as assigned that are commensurate with the role.
Essential qualifications
  • Higher National Diploma in a biological subject (or equivalent experience).
  • Experience working in a biological laboratory environment.
  • Knowledge of good laboratory practice and health & safety.
  • Experience with fermenters and HPLC/GC systems, and molecular biology / microbiological techniques.
  • Analytical and problem solving skills with a forward looking perspective.
  • Ability to troubleshoot technical problems and seek relevant advice.
  • Planning abilities: assess, organise resources, and progress work activities to deadlines.
  • Teamworking and networking skills within own work area.
Desirable qualifications
  • Effective IT and communication skills, both written and verbal, including report writing.
  • Ability to adapt skills to new circumstances.
Salary and Contract

£27,319 - £28,778 per annum, fixed term 36 months.
