Summary of Post

We have a full time research assistant position available in SPH, suitable for an epidemiologist, health researcher, data scientist or science communication expert with excellent analytical, project management and communications skills. The successful candidate will work with a multi disciplinary team addressing the public health burden and impact of chronic conditions in Ireland and the impact of integrated care programmes on long term outcomes of chronic conditions. The role will involve providing support for projects in the Converge Centre for Chronic Disease and Population Health Research, including its work streams in epidemiology, population level implementation and intervention effectiveness, health and economic modelling, health equity and patient and public involvement. Across these projects, the successful candidate will take a central role in the coordination of knowledge translation and data visualisation platforms, stakeholder outreach and engagement, general project administration and communications, and support of funding applications.

Key Duties

• Work closely with the Principal Investigators (PIs) and research team to ensure all project deliverables are met.
• Contribute to the design and development of a dynamic, user friendly research data reporting and visualisation (DRV) dashboard platform to quantify and characterise diabetes in Ireland and ensure surveillance and research findings are accessible to knowledge users, patients and the public.
• Identify and engage with scientific, clinical, public health, policy and public and patient representatives to co design and trial the research DRV dashboard platform.
• Develop oversight structures for populating, maintaining and updating the DRV dashboard platform, together with data scientists, controllers and providers.
• Support guidance on how to use the DRV dashboard.
• Support the preparation of ethics applications and data management plans.
• Coordinate meetings and communications for the DRV dashboard team.
• Support data assembly, analysis and collation of findings and development of peer review publications from ongoing studies within Converge.
• Contribute to the weekly coordination and administration of the Converge Centre and the Health Equity Research Alliance.
• Disseminate research findings including conference presentations, peer reviewed articles, social media content and policy briefs.

Qualifications - Essential

• MSc in Data Science, Biostatistics, Applied Mathematics, Health Services Research, Public Health, Population Health sciences, Epidemiology, or related discipline.
• Research experience within epidemiology, health systems or health services research.
• Quantitative analytical experience.
• Willingness and experience of working in multi disciplinary teams.
• Good networking and team coordination skills; experience in multi disciplinary stakeholder engagement and team coordination.
• Strong written and oral communication skills.
• Strong science communication/content creation skills.
• Familiarity with research ethics, data protection principles and GDPR.
• Ability to work independently, flexibly and collaboratively as part of a team.
• Excellent organisational, interpersonal, report writing and IT skills.
• Strong attention to detail and deadlines.
• Creativity and solutions oriented out of the box thinking.
• Research experience with data collection and management from different stakeholder groups.
• Familiarity with data visualisation and presentation skills; programming skills in developing dashboards (e.g., R Shiny, Power BI, etc.) would be an advantage.
• Understanding of the research funding landscape in Ireland and internationally.
• Experience organising workshops / public events.
• Commitment to health equity principles.
