Job Description

If you're looking for a career where you will be respected as an individual and valued for the contributions you make, join HSBC, and discover how diversity drives our success. Whether you want a career that could take you to the top, or simply take you in an exciting new direction, HSBC offers opportunities, support and rewards that will take you further.

HSBC UK Leveraged Finance ("LF") is seeking an experienced individual to join them as a Relationship Director.

HSBC UK Leveraged Finance is a national business consisting of approximately 100 colleagues, across 16 offices, covering over 350 clients and a diverse range of Private Equity ("PE") relationships. The business is a market leader with four key areas of expertise: Origination, Execution, Financial Sponsor Coverage, and Client Coverage. The customer base varies, typically with a turnover from £100m to over £2bn. The team is sector agnostic, with most customers categorized by their Private Equity (PE) ownership. Lending money to support PE firms with Leveraged Buyouts is complex and requires sophisticated financial modelling, structuring, and sensitivity analysis.

A role in Leveraged Finance offers an exciting opportunity to expand your skills in a fast-paced environment, where clients present both challenges and opportunities. No two days are the same, and you will have opportunities to challenge yourself and test your abilities by supporting clients and colleagues and collaborating with the wider HSBC teams.

Role Purpose

The Relationship Director will manage a portfolio of dynamic, fast-growing companies under PE ownership, supporting their complex business needs with tailored solutions while ensuring fair treatment of customers.

You will be responsible for:

  • Managing a portfolio of private equity-backed clients with complex structures.
  • Conducting credit reviews, including credit analysis and structuring facilities, with a focus on credit risk management.
  • Monitoring clients' financial performance to ensure compliance with banking terms.
  • Leading client meetings and developing mutually beneficial relationships by identifying and meeting client needs.
  • Participating as a key member of the deal team to ensure transactions are completed within challenging timeframes and in compliance with bank procedures.
  • Representing Leveraged Finance at external events and in the marketplace.
  • Supporting strategic initiatives to maintain HSBC's reputation as a leading workplace in Leveraged Finance.

To be successful in this role, you should meet the following requirements:

  • Experience in Leveraged Finance or managing complex clients at the Relationship Director or Senior Associate level, seeking new challenges in a dynamic environment.
  • Ability to influence others and build positive relationships with clients, introducers, and colleagues.
  • Experience managing and delivering complex, possibly international, relationships.
  • Strong business acumen, including understanding of economic, cultural, procedural, and regulatory issues.
  • Proficiency in gathering, analyzing, and interpreting comprehensive information.
  • Excellent credit assessment skills, especially for complex and structured facilities with an international dimension.
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills, adaptable to different audiences.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks effectively and manage unexpected issues.
  • Experience supporting and motivating team members would be advantageous.

This is a hybrid role based in Reading, with travel to the office and customer locations as required.
