Nottingham University Hospital NHS Trust (NUH) is looking for a fulltime Rehabilitation Consultant Physician to join an existing team of 3 NHS and academic consultants providing rehabilitation services to the people of Nottinghamshire and beyond.

Main duties of the job

The postholder(s) will be full-time Consultant Physician with responsibility for Complex Rehabilitation across Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust. The successful candidate should expect to work between our sites at all campuses.

The post is a for a Consultant Physician role (8 Programmed Activities) , at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust, working across all parts of the rehabilitation service including the newly opening national rehabilitation centre in Loughborough.

This is a very exciting time to join specialist rehabilitation in the East Midlands. The NRC is in its advanced stages and will open to patients in Summer 2026. This is a ground-breaking 70 bed facility for NHS patients based alongside and closely connected to the Defence Medical Rehabilitation Centre at Stanford Hall. The NRC will host a national training and education centre and a research and innovation hub. Together with our academic partners, the NRC will set a new standard for rehabilitation MD1 and a blueprint for the future.

NUH has an ambition to create a wider rehabilitation service for our patient population. Our current consultants have great opportunities to work across our tertiary centre for Major Trauma and Neurosurgery, and with an increasing number of patients with complex neurodisability and/or musculoskeletal disability require medical rehabilitation input throughout their care journey. Successful candidates will join the team to work within, and between multi-disciplinary teams so as to ensure that the very best rehabilitation care can be delivered.

We need forward-thinking, ambitious consultants whose skills and ideas will help us to deliver our plans and to thus shape the future of rehabilitation medicine in the East Midlands and nationwide. Person specification Teaching, Audit & Research
  • Evidence of participation in Clinical Audit.
  • Able to teach and support junior staff effectively
  • Original Research Publications
  • Higher teaching degree or qualification or training
Professional registration
  • Full GMC registration with Licence to Practise
Professional Qualifications
  • MBBS
  • Full MRCP
  • Higher professional degree
Clinical Skills/Experience
  • Extensive experience in Rehabilitation Medicine.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of current issues in general internal medicine.
  • Specific training in communication skills
  • Specific training in patient safety and/or human factors
Management Skills
  • Proven leadership skills, able to lead a team effectively.
  • Able to develop, present and operationalise coherent ideas for service development/delivery
  • Experience of change management
  • Higher management degree or qualification or training

Salary

Salary: The quoted salary will be on a pro rata basis for part time workers.
