Disaster Recovery & Recovery Architecture Lead
Contract: 6 months (Potential Extension)
Location: Dublin/Hybrid
Our client is seeking an experienced Disaster Recovery & Recovery Architecture Lead to design and deliver a new third-site disaster recovery capability as part of a strategic backup and recovery programme.
This is a senior technical architecture role focused on enterprise disaster recovery, cyber recovery, infrastructure resilience and business continuity. The successful candidate will be responsible for assessing existing capabilities, defining recovery requirements, developing the target-state architecture, producing detailed solution designs and supporting implementation planning.
The ideal candidate will have demonstrable, hands-on experience designing and delivering enterprise disaster recovery, backup and recovery, or cyber recovery solutions within complex infrastructure environments.
Key Responsibilities- Assess existing backup, recovery and infrastructure resilience capabilities, identifying gaps and opportunities for improvement.
- Define recovery requirements, including Recovery Time Objectives (RTOs) and Recovery Point Objectives (RPOs).
- Design the target-state architecture for a new third-site disaster recovery capability.
- Produce comprehensive High-Level Designs (HLDs) and Low-Level Designs (LLDs).
- Develop recovery strategies, runbooks, operational procedures and recovery workflows.
- Evaluate recovery technologies, lead technical assessments and review supplier proposals.
- Design recovery solutions spanning infrastructure, applications, databases, identity platforms and critical business services.
- Define and incorporate cyber recovery capabilities, including immutable storage, air-gapped recovery, recovery vaults and disaster recovery orchestration.
- Support disaster recovery testing, validation, operational readiness and implementation planning.
- Present proposed architectures and technical designs to architecture review boards and governance forums.
- Collaborate with infrastructure, security, networking, database and application teams to ensure recovery solutions meet business and technical requirements.
Essential Experience and Technical Skills
Candidates should demonstrate strong experience across most of the following areas:
- Architecture experience: 5+ years in Infrastructure Architecture, Recovery Architecture or Technical Architecture.
- Disaster recovery: Proven experience designing and delivering enterprise disaster recovery solutions.
- Backup and data protection: Strong knowledge of enterprise backup, replication, immutable storage, recovery vaults and disaster recovery orchestration.
- Cyber recovery: Experience with air-gapped recovery solutions, cyber recovery vaults and recovery approaches designed to protect against cyber incidents.
- Solution design: Proven ability to produce detailed HLDs and LLDs for complex enterprise environments.
- Recovery strategy: Experience defining recovery strategies, RTO/RPO requirements, business continuity plans and infrastructure resilience capabilities.
- Virtualisation: Experience with VMware vSphere environments and associated recovery requirements.
- Identity platforms: Knowledge of Microsoft Active Directory recovery and identity service dependencies.
- Databases: Experience recovering Microsoft SQL Server and/or Oracle environments.
- Operating systems: Experience with Windows and Linux platform recovery.
- Container platforms: Exposure to OpenShift and/or Kubernetes recovery solutions.
- Stakeholder management: Ability to lead technical workshops, engage senior stakeholders and work across multidisciplinary technical teams.
Desirable Experience
Experience in one or more of the following areas would be highly advantageous:
- Designing and delivering third-site disaster recovery solutions.
- Implementing cyber recovery vaults or isolated recovery environments.
- Delivering enterprise-wide backup and recovery transformation programmes.
- Leading large-scale infrastructure resilience initiatives.
- Designing recovery capabilities for business-critical, 24x7 services.
- Supporting disaster recovery testing, recovery simulations and operational handover.
Ideal Candidate Profile
The successful candidate will be a technically credible architect with a strong delivery background in enterprise disaster recovery and recovery engineering.
They will be comfortable working across complex infrastructure environments, translating business continuity requirements into practical technical architectures and producing implementation-ready design documentation.
Candidates should be able to demonstrate personal ownership of recovery solution design and delivery, rather than experience limited to operational support, governance or security oversight.
