Job Title: Receptionist - Probation Service (Temporary)

Employer: Brook Street Recruitment (on behalf of the HM Prison and Probation Service)

Location: Islington Probation Office, London

Pay Rate: £14.41 per hour

Hours: Monday-Friday, 9:00am-5:00pm (with one evening shift per week, 1:00pm-8:00pm)

Contract: Temporary until 31/03/2027

Please note: Successful candidates will be required to undergo SSCL vetting, which may take up to 6 weeks.

About the Role

We're recruiting a Receptionist to join the Probation Service in Islington. This is a frontline position where you will act as the first point of contact for visitors, people on probation, and staff, while supporting the safe and efficient day to day running of the office.

Key Duties

• Welcome visitors, log arrivals, issue passes, and notify staff of attendance
• Answer telephone calls, emails, and general enquiries, escalating where appropriate
• Support office operations including managing post, deliveries, stationery/PPE orders, and room bookings
• Handle petty cash and issue travel warrants for people on probation
• Carry out safety and security checks (e.g. fire alarms, CCTV monitoring) and act as Fire Warden/First Aider (training provided)
• Provide confidential administrative support, including updating records and maintaining databases
• Handle sensitive information in line with data protection requirements
• Remain alert to safeguarding or risk concerns and, where necessary, proceed to escalation

Skills & Experience

• Strong customer service and communication skills
• Admin skills
• Confident using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
• Professional, organised, and able to remain calm under pressure
• Experience in a customer facing or criminal justice environment is desirable
