Job Description
Receptionist

The closing date is 16 June 2026.

Hours: Tuesday 08:30-12:30, Thursday 12:30-18:30, Friday 12:30-18:30.

Flexibility needed to cover sickness and holidays. Surgery hours are 08:00-18:30, Monday to Friday.

We are a busy two site surgery with over 9,000 patients and a team of more than 20 staff members. The role is fast paced and offers variety each day.

Main Duties
  • Open premises and check heating and ventilation.
  • Restore and maintain telephone and IT equipment.
  • Register new patients and book appointments.
  • Monitor and direct patient flow throughout the surgery.
  • Oversee the waiting room and keep admin paperwork up to date.
  • Ensure doctors and practice nurses have relevant medical records, hospital letters and diagnostic reports.
  • Read, code and scan patient correspondence and hospital letters.
  • Maintain and tidy the doctor's consulting room, stocking appropriate forms.
  • Operate computer for repeat prescriptions, including the EPS system, and ensure they are signed and checked by the doctor.
  • Record all required information on computer and transfer phone calls to appropriate people and the night service.
  • Attend courses, practice meetings and other required training.
  • Maintain confidentiality at all times.
  • Prepare refreshments for doctors, healthcare professionals and visitors.
  • Use email to correspond with practice teams and other agencies.
  • Summarise medical records and distribute mail.
  • Perform any other duties as required by the Practice Manager or doctors.
About Us

This role is based at both South Normanton and Pinxton Surgeries (The Village Surgery). We are part of Amber Medical Services, which includes Limes Medical Centre, The Village Surgery and Blackwell Medical Centre. Our team consists of three partners, two salaried GPs, a nursing team and an administrative/reception team.

Qualifications
  • GCSE A C in English and Maths
  • Administration NVQ or equivalent
Experience
  • Experience within an administration or reception role
  • Experience of patients or customers
  • Experience working within the healthcare setting
