JOB TITLE: Community Project Officer - FTC
The Royal Armouries is the United Kingdom's national museum of arms and armour and one of the most important collections of its type in the world, housed at its headquarters and flagship museum in Leeds, its historic home at the Tower of London, and the Victorian Fort Nelson in Hampshire.
We have an exciting opportunity for a Community Project Officer to join the Community Engagement team on a fixed term contract until April 2027. Reporting to the Head of Learning and Participation, the successful applicant will support the development and delivery of a series of programmes exploring the impact of the Royal Armouries' collection on those who have lived experience of the consequences that arise from the use of weapons today.
Working with colleagues from across the organisation, as well as external partners, the Community Project Officer will engage a variety of groups, such as military veterans, refugee and asylum seekers and victims of knife crime, to co-produce a range of outputs both in the community and at the museum.
Hours
This position is a fixed term contract, working full time, 36 hours per week, 5 days out of 7. Some evening and weekend working will be required, as will some travel. The role will be hybrid with some presence required in the Leeds office, as well as locations across the West Yorkshire region.

Person SpecificationJob Title: Community Project Officer
Selection Criteria
- Qualifications: Educated to degree or equivalent qualification or experience.
- Work Experience: Experience of managing the development and delivery of co-curated projects, including exhibitions and events, in a relevant setting; experience of developing and delivering evaluation plans including reporting impacts; experience of working with a range of communities, including disabled people and members of the Armed Forces; experience of working within the cultural/museum sector; experience of project management in connection with the development of a range of outputs in a museum context; experience of budget management; experience in managing external contractors in a relevant setting.
- Skills and Knowledge: Good knowledge and contacts within the voluntary and community group sector; knowledge of current best practice in community engagement in museums and arts organisations; good knowledge of project management and team management; detailed and current knowledge of the UK arts, heritage and museum sector; excellent interpersonal skills; knowledge of the legal issues around working with children and vulnerable adults; excellent written and verbal communication; competence in IT skills.
- Personal attributes: Imaginative, creative approach to devising engagement activities; able to manage own workload; energetic, inquisitive and collaborative; participant-focused and outcome-oriented; receptive to change.
