Posted 10 days 13 hours ago by SUEZ
What will I be doing?
Through our waste management contract with Derbyshire County Council, SUEZ has committed to developing a re-use shop at our Household Waste Recycling Centre (HWRC).
As a Shop Operative, you will play a key role in the day-to-day operation of the re-use shop, working as part of a dedicated two-person team at Waterswallows HWRC. You will work closely with site management to ensure stock is available, well presented, and ready for sale.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Sorting, preparing, pricing, displaying and merchandising donated items to maximise sales and create an attractive shopping environment.
- Monitoring stock levels and communicating with site management about best-selling items and stock trends.
- Operating the point-of-sale system, processing card payments, handling returns and refunds, and reconciling sales transactions.
- Ensuring items are priced appropriately and that unsuitable donations are disposed of in line with procedures.
- Maintaining high standards of security, cleanliness and organisation within the shop.
- Supporting the smooth and profitable operation of the re-use shop whilst delivering excellent customer service.
You will also act as an ambassador for the re-use initiative, promoting its environmental and community benefits throughout Buxton and the surrounding areas, helping to encourage customer engagement and repeat visits.
What are the requirements?
We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic about sustainability and passionate about reducing waste through re-use. You will have previous retail experience and a genuine commitment to delivering outstanding customer service.
Knowledge of recycling, re-use and upcycling would be advantageous; however, we are equally interested in candidates who are keen to learn and develop their understanding in these areas. You should also have experience of stock management, merchandising and handling retail transactions.
In addition, you will have:
- A flexible approach to work, including the ability to work shifts and weekends.
- The confidence to work independently within the re-use shop while maintaining close communication with site management.
- Strong teamwork and communication skills, as you will work closely with colleagues across the HWRC site.
- A positive, proactive attitude and a willingness to support the growth and success of this exciting new project.
