Job Description
Job Overview

Provide an efficient patient focused reception service within the Radiology Department maintaining a high standard of customer care. Support a high standard of clinical care to patients and carry out clerical duties in accordance with Trust policies and procedures.

Site & Salary

Main area Admin & Clerical Grade NHS AfC: Band 2 Contract Permanent Hours. Hours: Full time or Part time. 37.5 hours per week (including evenings, bank holidays and weekends). Site: Whiston Hospital, Town Prescot. Salary: £25,272 per annum pro rata if part time. Closing date: 31/07/:59.

Main Duties
  • Undertake general reception duties including greeting patients, verification of patient details and updating patient demographics on Trust Information Systems.
  • Enter patient and examination details on Patient Administration System (PAS) and Radiology Information System (RIS) following departmental procedures.
  • Ensure accurate data quality is maintained during data entry.
  • Make appointments as required.
  • Liaise with portering staff to facilitate the transfer of patients between wards and departments.
  • Maintain and update knowledge of RIS and PAS through regular training.
  • File and maintain paper and electronic documentation.
  • Respond to enquiries in a positive and helpful manner by telephone and face to face.
  • Communicate with patients and relatives courteously and sympathetically.
  • Arrange ambulance or transport for patients when required.
  • Provide general advice to patients or redirect to appropriate department.
  • Deal with complaints on a first line basis or refer to relevant department.
  • Liaise with PACS teams from other Trusts to assist in image transfer.
  • Provide radiology images for multi disciplinary team meetings in PACS.
  • Facilitate image transfer to other Trusts by CD/Dicom push or other method.
  • Prioritise image workload based on clinical urgency.
  • Undertake data entry on RIS and PAS for imported images.
  • Access national tracing systems to check patient demographics.
  • Respond to enquiries related to image transfer and general PACS issues.
  • Maintain and update a range of knowledge of RIS and PACS through regular training.
  • Provide support to the PACS/RIS team.
  • Liaise with clinical staff to ensure smooth operation of the department.
  • Work flexibly in accordance with the Trust Policy.
  • Perform any other duties required by Line Manager.
Administrative Responsibilities
  • Merge duplicate records on RIS, Image viewing system and PAS.
  • Identify duplicates or errors on the system and resolve them appropriately.
  • Produce encrypted CDs for image transfer and legal cases.
Teaching & Training Responsibilities
  • Ensure attendance at Trust mandatory training sessions.
  • Maintain knowledge and skills of department/Trust systems, policies and procedures.
  • Observe and adhere to all Trust policies and procedures.
Qualifications
  • Educated to NVQ Level 2 or equivalent qualification and/or equivalent experience.
  • Customer Care NVQ qualification.
  • ECDL or equivalent qualification and/or experience.
Knowledge and Experience
  • Previous clerical experience.
  • Competent IT user.
  • Able to deal with the public in person and via telephone.
  • Previous NHS experience.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
Skills
  • Good organisational skills.
  • Ability to relate effectively and communicate clearly and professionally at all levels.
  • Able to work as part of a team.
  • Self motivated and able to work with limited supervision.
