A leading London-based actuarial analytics and consulting organisation is seeking a highly academic and technically strong R&D Engineer to join its specialist innovation team.

This is a highly project-focused role working across multiple actuarial and consulting teams, researching and developing new analytical models, algorithms, and technical solutions to solve complex real-world business problems.

You will operate as an internal technical specialist, applying advanced mathematical, statistical, and computational techniques to design innovative analytics capabilities and production-grade tools.

No prior insurance experience is required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver applied research and technical innovation projects

  • Translate complex business and actuarial problems into technical solutions

  • Design and develop analytical models, algorithms, and data pipelines

  • Build tools and prototypes using Python and modern data science techniques

  • Work closely with actuarial, consulting, and engineering teams

  • Contribute to development of new intellectual property and analytics capabilities

  • Evaluate and implement emerging technologies including AI and machine learning

This role offers significant variety, working across multiple projects and problem domains.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Master's degree or PhD in a quantitative discipline (Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, Statistics or similar)

  • Strong programming skills in Python, R, or similar

  • Excellent mathematical modelling and analytical skills

  • Experience working with large or complex datasets

  • Ability to solve complex technical problems

  • Strong communication skills

Desirable Experience

  • PhD or research background

  • Machine learning or AI experience

  • Algorithm development or optimisation

  • Scientific computing or advanced analytics

  • Experience developing analytical software or tools
