Quality Lead Transmission

Summary of Assignment:
The Quality Lead - Transmission will be responsible for overseeing and ensuring the implementation of quality management practices across the full transmission scope of an offshore wind farm during the execution/construction phase. This includes quality assurance and control of the Onshore Substation (ONS), Landfall works, Offshore Substation Platform (OSP), Export Cable (EC), and Inter-Array Cable (IAC) installation. The role will interface with contractors, suppliers, package managers, and certification bodies to ensure compliance with project requirements, industry standards, and statutory regulations
Travels required: Mainly WFH with some travels to the Edinburgh office for meetings as and when required (around 2 -3 days a month) Main office: Ground Floor New Clarendon 114-116 George Street EH2 4LH, Edinburgh Working hours: Flexible times - Monday to Friday - 7.5h a day (normally between 8am and 6pm)Responsibilities
Quality Execution & Oversight
- Lead and coordinate quality execution across all transmission scopes including Onshore Substation, Landfall Civils, Export Cable Supply, Offshore Substation, and Inter-Array Cables Supply.
- Ensure implementation of agreed Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs) at all supplier and construction locations, with a focus on real-time execution, compliance, and corrective action.
- Oversee and coordinate QA representatives deployed at key manufacturing, fabrication, and construction facilities to ensure consistent quality oversight and proactive issue resolution.
- Ensure robust daily/weekly quality reporting from QA representatives, including updates on inspection progress, non-conformances, observations, and key risks.
- Compile and elevate quality performance data and status reports to the senior project leadership team, ensuring timely escalation of high-impact issues.
Non-Conformance & RCA Management
- Lead the response to quality issues and non-conformances across the execution phase, ensuring clear accountability, resolution, and traceable documentation.
- Monitor and drive closure of Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs), defects and punches in line with project timelines and contractual requirements.
- Coordinate Root Cause Analysis (RCA) activities for significant or recurring issues, ensuring actions are identified, implemented, and tracked through to effective closure.
- Report progress and trends on RCA implementation and systemic improvements to project leadership.
Supplier & Site Engagement
- Maintain regular and active engagement with suppliers, contractors, and QA site teams to verify quality compliance and execution readiness.
- Attend key quality hold points and milestone inspections (FATs, PFAIs, site walkdowns, manufacturing facility inspections etc.) across all transmission scope locations.
- Ensure supplier activities are executed in accordance with contractual quality obligations and project specifications.
Interface & Integration
- Act as the quality focal point between transmission packages and other project scopes (FOU, WTG, IAC, OSS) to ensure integrated execution and consistent quality standards.
- Liaise with Construction and HSE teams to coordinate on-site quality assurance and ensure alignment of quality and safety priorities.
Reporting & Governance
- Prepare and deliver structured quality performance reports to senior leadership, identifying trends, risks, and improvement areas.
- Maintain a dashboard of quality KPIs for the transmission scopes, including NCR status, defect register, punch list, audit findings, supplier performance, and RCA follow-up.
- Support the Quality Assurance reps in planning and conducting audits, internal reviews, and project quality meetings.
Continuous Improvement
- Capture lessons learned from transmission execution activities for dissemination to other project areas, continuous improvement and future project planning.
- Support implementation of quality initiatives and training at supplier and construction sites to reinforce expectations and improve outcomes.
Skills:
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving ability.
- Able to work independently in dynamic and high-pressure environments.
- Practical understanding of construction methodologies and project execution workflows.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, quality management tools, and document control systems (e.g., Aconex, SharePoint).
Knowledge:
- Minimum 5-10 years of experience in quality assurance/control within large-scale infrastructure or energy projects, preferably in offshore wind.
- Proven experience with transmission systems including offshore substations, subsea cable installation, and onshore grid connection works.
- Strong knowledge of relevant ISO standards (e.g., ISO 9001), IEC standards, and industry best practices.
- Familiarity with marine operations, offshore construction environments, and high-voltage systems.
Qualifications:
- Degree or equivalent in Engineering, Quality Management, or a related field
