Job Description
Overview

We are seeking an enthusiastic and committed Qualified Teacher of the Visually Impaired (QTVI) to join our friendly, highly skilled Visual inclusion team within the Sensory Inclusion Service. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a significant difference to the lives of children and young people with a visual impairment, supporting them to achieve their full educational and social potential.

As a QTVI, you will work in partnership with children and young people, families, schools, and other professionals to promote inclusion, independence, and equality of opportunity. You will provide specialist teaching, advice, and assessment to ensure pupils with a visual impairment can access the curriculum and wider school life alongside their fully sighted peers.

Key responsibilities
  • Teaching and supporting children and young people with a visual impairment, from early years to post 16, across a range of educational settings. Assessing functional vision and access needs, and contributing to outcomes, support plans, and EHCP processes.
  • Advising schools on differentiation, reasonable adjustments, and inclusive strategies to enable effective access to learning.
  • Providing training, guidance, and ongoing support to school staff and support assistants to build confidence and capacity in inclusive practice.
  • Working collaboratively with parents, carers, schools, and multi agency partners to achieve positive outcomes for children and young people.
  • Keeping accurate records and contributing to service development and best practice.
What we are looking for
  • Holds Qualified Teacher Status and an approved Mandatory Qualification for Teachers of Children and Young People with Visual Impairment (MQ / QTVI), or is willing to work towards it.
  • Has a strong commitment to inclusion, equality, and child centred practice.
  • Demonstrates excellent communication, organisation, and collaborative working skills.
  • Is adaptable, reflective, and motivated to keep up to date with developments in visual impairment education and assistive technology.
