Job Description

Hitachi Energy has an exciting opportunity for a Project Site Engineer responsible for ensuring that all engineering, procurement, construction, installation, testing and commissioning activities are executed in accordance with the Project Quality Plan, contract requirements, applicable standards, customer specifications and regulatory requirements. The role supports the delivery of high-quality substation projects by driving quality assurance, monitoring quality control activities, identifying non-conformances and promoting continuous improvement throughout the project lifecycle

How you'll make an impact:
  • Develop, implement and maintain project-specific Quality Plans, Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), quality procedures and inspection checklists.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable standards, specifications and statutory requirements, including IEC, IEEE, customer specifications, and company quality management systems.
  • Coordinate and monitor quality inspections, witness tests, factory acceptance tests (FAT), site acceptance tests (SAT), pre-commissioning and commissioning activities.
  • Review engineering drawings, technical documentation, method statements and work procedures to verify compliance with quality requirements and identify potential discrepancies.
  • Conduct site quality inspections and audits to verify that construction and installation activities are performed in accordance with approved documentation and project requirements.
  • Manage non-conformance reports (NCRs), ensuring timely resolution and effective root cause analysis.
  • Monitor suppliers, subcontractors and project teams to ensure adherence to quality requirements throughout manufacturing, installation and commissioning phases.
  • Collect, review and maintain quality records, inspection reports, test reports, certificates and handover documentation to support project completion and customer acceptance.
  • Support project teams in identifying quality risks and implementing mitigation measures to minimise rework, delays and cost impacts.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives by analysing quality performance trends, lessons learned and key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Provide quality guidance, coaching and support to engineers, supervisors, subcontractors and construction teams.
  • Participate in customer, regulatory and certification audits and support successful project quality reviews.
Your Background:
  • Strong knowledge of electrical substation design, construction, testing and commissioning processes.
  • Understanding of Quality Management Systems, including ISO 9001 principles and auditing methodologies.
  • Experience managing quality documentation, inspections, quality records and project handover packages.
  • Ability to interpret technical specifications, engineering drawings and applicable industry standards.
  • Leading quality initiatives across multiple workstreams within complex substation projects.
  • Providing technical guidance, coaching and review of the work performed by less experienced engineers and inspectors.
  • Driving resolution of complex quality issues involving engineering, manufacturing, construction and commissioning activities.
  • Influencing project decisions through expert quality advice while ensuring customer and contractual requirements are met
