Who We Are

Network Rail High Speed Ltd. (NRHS) is responsible for operating and maintaining the UK's only international high-speed railway, High Speed (HS1).

The 109km HS1 infrastructure consists of a diverse range of railway assets such as the track, signalling, overhead line, lineside buildings, depots, viaducts and long tunnels. NRHS is also responsible for operating and maintaining three international stations; St Pancras, Ebbsfleet and Stratford International.

As a wholly owned subsidiary of Network Rail Infrastructure Ltd, NRHS is privately financed under an agreement with our client 'HS1 Ltd', undertaking a diverse range of activities from railway infrastructure maintenance and operations - through to station facilities management and retail on behalf of our client.

About the role

Are you an experienced Project Manager looking to lead the successful delivery of critical rail infrastructure projects?

At Network Rail, our Works Delivery teams are responsible for delivering a diverse portfolio of renewals, inspection and maintenance projects that keep the railway running safely and efficiently. As a Project Manager, you'll play a key role in leading multidisciplinary teams, driving project performance, and ensuring the safe, compliant and cost-effective delivery of projects that make a real difference across the network.

What You'll Do

As a Project Manager, you will be accountable for the delivery of a portfolio of projects from inception through to completion, ensuring they are delivered safely, on time, within budget and to the highest quality standards.

Key responsibilities include:

• Leading the delivery of projects in accordance with Network Rail standards, legislation and project governance requirements.
• Inspiring, developing and managing specialist and multidisciplinary teams to achieve successful project outcomes.
• Working closely with engineering, commercial, programme controls and delivery teams to develop robust project plans and drive successful delivery.
• Identifying and managing project risks and opportunities, implementing effective mitigation measures and change control processes where required.
• Managing resource requirements across current and future work programmes to ensure projects are appropriately resourced.
• Building and maintaining strong working relationships with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.
• Establishing effective project governance arrangements, ensuring clear accountability, robust reporting and informed decision-making throughout the project lifetime.
• Leading compliance with Construction Design and Management (CDM) regulations and supporting the management of Works Delivery Principal Contractor Licence obligations.
• Supporting the development and maintenance of business cases, project definitions and investment justification.
• Leading and supporting accident investigations where required, driving continuous improvement and a strong safety culture.

Your experience and skills What We're Looking For

We're looking for a confident and collaborative leader who can successfully manage complex projects while building strong relationships with stakeholders at all levels.

• Degree qualified in a relevant discipline, or equivalent experience.
• Member of the Association for Project Management (APM) or equivalent, working towards or holding Chartered status.
• Strong knowledge and practical experience of Construction Design and Management (CDM) regulations.
• Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate across all levels.
• Proven experience delivering projects within a complex project environment, including planning, contracting and delivery.
• Demonstrable experience managing project budgets, forecasts and financial performance.
• Track record of successfully leading multidisciplinary teams.
• Strong decision-making skills with the ability to manage ambiguity and changing priorities.
• Demonstrable commitment to safety management and safe project delivery.
• Detailed knowledge of Health & Safety legislation and industry best practice.
• Experience conducting or leading accident investigations.

It Would Be Great If You Also Have

• Experience within the rail industry, including knowledge of GRIP or equivalent project delivery frameworks.
• Understanding of investment, commercial and procurement processes.
• Formal qualifications in risk management, identification and assessment.
• Knowledge of Network Rail assets and asset management principles.
• A proactive, collaborative approach with a willingness to challenge, learn and continuously improve.
• Attendance at a Network Rail office is required a minimum of three days per week.
• The role will involve occasional site visits and safety assurance activities.
• You will be required to engage with internal and external stakeholders across a diverse infrastructure portfolio.
• Safety is at the heart of everything we do, and behaviours demonstrating a commitment to safety will form an essential part of the assessment process.
