Project Director Construction

My client, a leading international construction contractor, is seeking an experienced Project Director with a strong technical background to join its senior management team in Cork.

Reporting to the Regional Director, you will provide technical and engineering leadership across the region, supporting project delivery, driving quality and safety standards, and contributing to the strategic direction of the business.

The role offers a blend of office, project and home working.

Health & Safety

• Champion a strong safety culture across regional operations.

• Monitor performance, report on KPIs and share best practice.

• Ensure compliance with health and safety training requirements and lead regional safety forums.

Technical Assurance & Temporary Works

• Oversee technical quality, ensuring compliance with relevant standards and project stage gates.

• Provide expert guidance on engineering challenges and coordinate independent technical reviews.

• Act as the regional Designated Individual for Temporary Works, overseeing procedures, training and reporting.

Engineering Leadership

• Lead and develop the regional engineering team.

• Allocate appropriate technical resources across projects.

• Support project teams with technical advice, direction and practical solutions.

Quality & Aftercare

• Develop and implement quality strategies that support defect-free delivery.

• Identify risks, embed effective quality controls and promote consistent procurement standards.

• Ensure compliance with relevant regulations and technical requirements.

• Oversee aftercare, support clients following handover and drive the timely resolution of defects.

• Embed lessons learned through improved systems, processes and training.

Stakeholder & Business Support

• Build strong relationships with clients, consultants and internal delivery teams.

• Support business assurance, early careers development and sustainability initiatives.

• Provide accurate and timely reporting to senior leadership.

• Demonstrable senior leadership experience within construction, with a strong technical and engineering focus.

• Experience managing multidisciplinary teams and supporting the delivery of complex projects.

• Strong understanding of public and private sector procurement processes.

• Knowledge of technical assurance, temporary works, quality management and construction safety.

• Excellent communication and relationship management skills, with the ability to influence clients, consultants and internal stakeholders.

• Ability to prioritise competing demands, make timely decisions and provide clear direction in a fast-paced environment.
