Your Mission

Our Fraud and consumer safety team, protects NALA and its customers from fraud and general abuse. This will include building new tools for fraud prevention, detection, and mitigation. Your Responsibilities in this Role
  • Partner with engineers to design robust technical solutions and deliver high-quality features
  • Write code, contribute to system design, and guide architecture decisions
  • Manage and coach 5-6 engineers, running effective 1:1s, feedback sessions, and career development planning
  • Collaborate with other Engineering Managers and Product Managers to align squad goals and processes
  • Build a high-performing team culture rooted in accountability, learning, and autonomy
  • Hire and onboard new engineers to support our rapid growth
  • Report on delivery progress, system performance, and team health to leadership
Must-have requirements
  • Strong technical background due to the strong technical nature of the products being built.
  • Proven experience shipping a breadth of high-quality consumer product features at a Fintech or Payments company
  • You have 5+ years of product management experience shipping world-class products at fast-growing companies and have had demonstrable engagement with Design, Engineering and Leadership teams.
  • You are fluent in SQL and have strong software engineering experience to interrogate product data yourself and make good decisions. We understand that perfect data is not available but knowing what pragmatic assumptions can be made to drive reasonable decisions is very important
  • You have enough engineering context to know a bad MVP from a good one and have experience with product discovery methodologies
  • You have strong empathy for customers and an unwillingness to compromise on user-centered design
  • Experience in working with third parties, whether it's evaluating APIs and capabilities, mapping out integration plans or evaluating different technology options
Nice to have requirements
  • Previous work in early-stage or scaling startups
  • Familiarity with fraud trends and regulatory expectations in the UK, African, and Asian financial ecosystems
  • Previous work with external partners and APIs related to identity verification or transaction security
  • Experience designing robust, developer-friendly APIs (e.g., REST, GraphQL)
Success in the role looks like

3-Month Metrics

  • Defined and validated a clear roadmap for fraud and consumer safety tooling
  • Launched first iteration of a fraud detection or mitigation feature, in collaboration with engineering
  • Completed 20+ user research interviews to identify top user pain points and refine problem framing
  • Built and tested messaging for fraud-related product features across key market segments

6-Month Metrics

  • Fraud incident rate reduced through implementation of targeted prevention features
  • New market expansion product strategy finalised and approved by leadership
  • Cross-functional delivery cadence established and delivering measurable improvements to consumer safety
  • Regular reporting framework in place to track fraud KPIs, user impact, and feedback loops

    • You'll meet with Nico, CTO and Co-Founder here at NALA
  • Our take home Task
    • We will send you a specific task to the product team you're interviewing for
  • 1 hour Task Review Interview
    • You'll meet with Benji, CEO & Co-Founder & Nico, CTO & Co-Founder. We will ask you to present your task back to the team. They will have some questions prepared and will deep dive into some areas of the task with you
  • 30 mins Customer Empathy
    • You'll meet with Benji, CEO with a specific session focused on customers, as per one of our values
  • References
    • We conduct reference checks for all hires.
  • Decision
    • We aim to provide timely feedback on your process and next steps.
