Product Manager

This is an exciting opportunity to join our collaborative Academic Division as a Product Manager.
This position will have the assigned area of responsibility of Journals Trust & Integrity. The role will be focused on supporting OUP's ongoing activities to ensure high-quality and high-integrity publishing processes for our journals. You will have a particular focus on detection capabilities, working with new and existing third-party vendors to ensure we maintain an effective set of screening capabilities for submitted and published content. As part of this, you will engage with stakeholders including Societies and Editors to understand, define, and manage demand to the relevant roadmaps for our trust & integrity capabilities. The role may also be required to help advise on active ethics case investigations arising from use of detection capabilities.
Key responsibilities in this role will include:
- Within your specific area of accountability, to refine and execute a digital strategy that delivers long-term impact and commercial success for Academic. To lead cross-functional project teams as needed and work closely with colleagues from across OUP to define and manage products and services.
- To act as 'product champion' for the accountable digital offering both internally and externally, in liaison with content publishers and departmental teams, and define a compelling forward roadmap that meets customer needs.
- To work closely with Product and other departmental teams across publishing, sales and marketing functions, to ensure products are clearly positioned and communicated, so that customers can easily understand the value and purpose of each service.
- To contribute to wider Academic digital publishing strategy within Product, through collaboration and participation, and help to establish industry best practice in product management in Academic.
- To monitor the market and competitive landscape, and to seek insight into user needs to inform product development and functional improvement, as well as to contribute to sales and marketing strategies.
- To work closely with publishing, sales, marketing and Group colleagues to understand research needs, and to represent the customer within the organisation and be accountable for overall customer experience and satisfaction with digital products.
- To be abreast of the future of academic research and assess, in collaboration with relevant stakeholders and departmental teams, the commercial and technical opportunities and threats that emerge from the research landscape.
- To manage products throughout the lifecycle of the offering, from strategic planning to tactical operations, including researching and bringing new products to market, leading on-going development of existing services, and overseeing product retirement.
- To have overall responsibility for maximising customer value and return on investment from the specific offering, and to ensure tools and operational processes are working efficiently and effectively to minimize total cost of ownership.
We operate a hybrid working policy that requires a minimum of 2 days per week in the Oxford office.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will ideally have:
- Proven ability to lead and influence cross-functional teams and external stakeholders
- Demonstrable understanding of journals data and usage analytics, including platform
- Demonstrable understanding of product design and user experience
- Knowledge of the Journals publishing research landscape, particularly research integrity and ethical issues
- Experience in research or educational product development (Desirable)
