A day in the role:

A typical day will include joining your colleagues on daily stand-ups and other agile ceremonies, presenting solution reviews, backlog refinement exercises etc. The majority of your day will be spent developing solutions defined in user stories (business requirements) according to standard SDLC processes.

You may also be involved in wider Domain initiatives or helping with Bank-wide strategic objectives, such as Outreach, Diversity and Inclusion through the Bank established Staff Networks.

When in the office, you may want to lunch with colleagues or meet for a coffee with colleagues in your team or even wider across the Bank. You may join, or even take part in, colleague All Hands, Town Halls and other collaborative events.

If you are on the support rota, you may be involved with managing the release into production or be involved in incidents for remediating production change.

The role is varied, exciting and critical in developing and supporting a critical Product that underpins Bank Mission. The work you will be doing is contributes to the stability of the UK economy!

Role Requirements:

Fundamentally, you will have a passion for developing software solutions within a continuous delivery model on a critical Bank product which underpins our Reference and Master data management policies.

As a software developer, your main skills will be SQL, ETL, and an understanding of data modelling. You will be familiar with agile software development processes using JIRA, confluence, Azure DevOps and GIT.

More broadly, you will need to demonstrate a motivation to develop your understanding of Data platforms including S&P Enterprise Data Management (S&P EDM).

Role Overview and Responsibilities

The Product Engineer will contribute to the entire data lifecycle, working agilely to deliver high-quality solutions on time. Key responsibilities include:
  • Providing technical input and collaborating with various teams and leads.
  • Communicating effectively with stakeholders on issues, status, and progress.
  • Promoting continuous improvement in knowledge bases, development processes, and standards.
  • Presenting information clearly to diverse audiences.
  • Taking ownership of work and participating in peer reviews.
  • Testing and refining programs to ensure quality.
  • Mentoring and coaching colleagues.
  • Maintaining a positive attitude and staying updated on industry trends.
  • Identifying optimization opportunities and investing in professional growth.
We're looking for someone who has the following key skills and experience:
  • Strong understanding of ETL development concepts.
  • Skills in batch scheduling systems and implementation.
  • Proficiency in SQL and SQL Server (2016).
  • Knowledge of the MSBI stack including SSIS, SSRS, and SSAS.
  • Familiarity with development and version control tools such as JIRA/Confluence, GIT, and Azure DevOps.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities including debugging scripts and writing stored procedures.
  • Commitment to continuous learning and teamwork.
  • "Quality-First" mentality focussing on delivering the highest quality solutions.
  • Knowledge of ITIL framework (understanding of Incident, Problem, Change)
  • Team collaboration and people skills. Confidence in speaking-up and taking an active part in discussions to improve People/Process/Technology.
  • Additional advantageous skills include:
  • Proficiency in Markit EDM version 18 or higher.
  • Experience with EDM Matcher, Load and Export, and EDM User-Interface.
  • Experience creating user interfaces and error validation routines in Markit EDM.
  • Expertise in data warehouse design and usage.
  • Understanding of data modelling and logical/physical database design.

Salary and Benefits Information

We encourage flexible working, part time working and job share arrangements. Part time salary and benefits will be on a pro-rated basis as appropriate.

The salary on offer is:
Leeds circa: £40,320 - £45,360

In addition, we also offer a comprehensive benefits package as detailed below:
  • Currently a non-contributory, career average pension giving you a guaranteed retirement benefit of 1/80th of your annual salary for every year worked. There is the option to increase your pension (to 1/65th) or decrease (to 1/105th) in exchange for salary through our flexible benefits programme each year. The Bank has the discretion to vary standard accrual rates and dial up and dial down rates at any time and to withdraw dial up and dial down options at any time.
