Founded over 30 years ago, The Rooflight Co is a successful, employee-owned Cotswolds business with approximately 40 employees, designing and manufacturing rooflights and roof windows for the UK construction / specification market.

We are looking for a hands-on and detail-driven Design Engineer to develop bespoke rooflight solutions tailored to customer requirements. This role involves working closely with clients to create detailed, manufacturable designs, and collaborating with internal teams to ensure seamless production and assembly. You'll need strong CAD skills, excellent organisation, and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining the highest design standards.

The Role and Accountabilities
Actively build relationships with our architects and contractors through project work, online meetings, phone calls, site visits, project meetings, and events.
Liaise directly with our customers (internal and external) to identify their needs and provide project support and technical advice, promoting the company brand through the production of high-quality visuals or drawings to communicate designs and present to our customers.
Utilise commercial and financial awareness to work closely with the customer and internal departments when establishing the feasibility and realisation of product design specifications.
Design, develop and detail feasible rooflight and roof window solutions, and their associated products, for manufacture and assembly to customer specification.
Produce fully detailed 3D models, in SolidWorks or OnShape, for manufacturing purposes and any required documentation for production, to include 2D drawings, production manuals and bill of materials.
Undertake all necessary simulations, thermal calculations and prototyping to ensure products are fit for purpose and meet project specifications, industry standards, and regulatory requirements.
Collaborate and support our internal teams and suppliers using a practical hands-on approach where required, to ensure successful delivery of projects to agreed quality and cost.
Promote positive and professional communication with all colleagues, suppliers, and customers, ensuring the customer experience is always front of mind.
Take ownership of own workload, working to a well organised and dynamic pace, completing all tasks to agreed timescales and to the agreed quality standards.
Support other teams within the Engineering and Manufacturing department as required.
- Dependant on experience, actively ensure the successful project management of bespoke project orders, enquiry stage projects, technical support requests, or any other work undertaken within the team.
- Dependant on experience, oversee and validate the design, development and implementation of all bespoke project designs and new bespoke product applications produced by the team.
- Dependant on experience, identify, suggest and implement new methods, procedures and work processes to continuously improve efficiencies and working practices.
- Dependant on experience, mentor, train and coach junior team members, supporting and guiding them to deliver their goals, and helping them reach their full potential.
Qualifications and Experience
Degree qualified in Product Design or Industrial Design, or similar discipline.
Experience using 3D CAD software (Solidworks or similar).
Excellent attention to detail with a creative mindset to solve problems.
Hardworking and committed with a positive can-do attitude.
Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
Flexible, energetic, with a sense of urgency and a result-driven approach to working.
A well organised individual with excellent communication and presentation skills.
Strong knowledge of Microsoft 365, including applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
An interest in architecture or construction.

The Package
Working hours: 37 hours per week, Monday - Friday
Location: Bourton on the Water, with hybrid working once training fully complete
Salary: £25,000 - £35,000 (dependant on experience)
