Procurement Manager, Enterprise Software
Location: United Kingdom, remote
Contract: Six months initially, with a strong likelihood of extension
The role
A leading global bank is looking for an experienced Senior Procurement Manager to join its central procurement function, working specifically across enterprise software.
The role will sit within the wider Software Procurement category and support a significant portfolio of strategic and tactical procurement activity. You will work directly with major enterprise technology providers such as Microsoft, Google, SAP and Oracle, alongside a broader range of specialist software suppliers.
This is a senior, delivery-focused position requiring someone who can independently manage complex supplier engagements, lead commercial negotiations and work effectively across a large, regulated organisation.
You will partner closely with CIOs, CTOs, technology leaders and other internal stakeholders to ensure the bank secures strong commercial terms, develops effective supplier relationships and receives the maximum possible value from its technology investment.
Key responsibilities
- Lead complex and high-value software procurement activity from initial requirement through to contract execution.
- Manage commercial negotiations with major enterprise technology vendors and specialist software providers.
- Build strong working relationships with strategic suppliers and represent the bank confidently in senior commercial discussions.
- Partner with CIOs, CTOs and technology stakeholders to understand requirements, demand, existing agreements and future technology priorities.
- Translate business and technology requirements into effective sourcing and negotiation strategies.
- Challenge requirements, pricing models and supplier proposals to ensure the bank achieves the best possible commercial and operational outcome.
- Identify opportunities to improve commercial terms, consolidate spend, rationalise suppliers and strengthen licensing arrangements.
- Run end-to-end procurement processes, including market engagement, sourcing, RFPs, commercial evaluation, contract review, negotiation and finalisation.
- Draft, review and redline software contracts, working closely with legal where required while retaining ownership of the commercial process.
- Navigate internal legal, risk, compliance, audit, information security and third-party management requirements.
- Manage internal alignment across multiple stakeholders and resolve commercial or operational blockers.
- Support negotiations covering software licences, subscriptions, cloud services, support, maintenance and enterprise agreements.
- Balance large, strategically important negotiations with smaller and more tactical software requirements.
- Support broader procurement improvement and standardisation initiatives across the bank's international entities.
- Work effectively across countries and business areas with differing levels of procurement maturity and local capability.
Required experience
- Significant experience in software procurement, technology sourcing or commercial supplier management.
- Proven experience running end-to-end software procurement processes independently.
- Strong experience negotiating with large enterprise software vendors such as Microsoft, Oracle, SAP, Google or comparable providers.
- Experience working with smaller and more specialised software suppliers.
- Strong contract negotiation capability, including drafting, reviewing and redlining complex software agreements.
- A strong understanding of enterprise software licensing, subscriptions, support models and commercial structures.
- Experience operating within a regulated environment, ideally banking, financial services or another highly controlled organisation.
- The ability to navigate legal, risk, compliance, audit and information security processes without losing momentum.
- Strong stakeholder management skills, with the credibility to engage directly with CIOs, CTOs and senior technology leaders.
- A practical and hands-on approach, with the willingness to personally drive supplier engagements and internal processes through to completion.
- The ability to move between complex, high-value negotiations and more tactical procurement activity.
- Experience working across multiple countries, legal entities or business units would be advantageous.
- Strong commercial judgement, communication and negotiation skills.
The environment
The bank operates through a collaborative and relatively flat structure, with procurement, technology and business teams working closely across different countries and functions.
The successful individual will need to be proactive, commercially confident and comfortable taking ownership of a busy portfolio. You will need to challenge constructively, build consensus and maintain momentum across complex stakeholder groups.
This role will suit someone who can operate credibly with senior technology leaders and global suppliers, while remaining close enough to the detail to manage negotiations, contracts and delivery personally.
