Career progression is available. If you are appointed as Senior (Grade H) you will automatically progress to Principal (Grade I) on achievement of the Essential Job Requirements of Principal.

The Job:

We are experiencing a sustained uplift in the number and variety of Building Regulations application we receive in this fast-growing District. We are seeking a Senior or Principal Surveyor with a minimum registration of class 2D who can work on all the application types we receive and give support and guidance to the less experienced members of our small but dedicated team and mentor them towards higher registration classes.

The Role:

The scope of our work ranges from very small domestic developments to large complex multi-unit commercial ones. We have significant developments around the northern edge of Oxford and in Banbury and Bicester. Our work also includes domestic developments in our many Conservation Areas.

Your role will be part desk-based undertaking the checking of Full Plans submissions and offering support to our customers, and part site-based undertaking development inspections.

Our Building Control team works very closely with our Development Control and other internal teams who you will be regularly supporting with technical advice. We also work very closely with the Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service.

The successful applicant will be appointed on a grade according to his/her ability to meet the Essential Job requirements.

This is a career graded post. If appointed to the Senior position progression to Principal will follow as soon as the Essential Criteria of the Principal position are met.

The Person:

You will be self-motivated, able to work largely without direct supervision and be able to take the initiative on many aspects of the work you will be asked to do.
The role is suitable for hybrid working but you will be expected to be in the office at times on request.

The Benefits:

The Council is an equal opportunities employer. We offer agile working, which means we don't have a rigid work location. Our staff work from home and in the office to suit the business need. Other benefits include:
A generous annual leave entitlement 27 days + Bank holidays.
Opportunity to join the Local Government Pension Scheme (Including generous Employer Contribution of 15.9% and the ability to transfer your private pension into the scheme)
EV Salary sacrifice scheme
Cycle to work salary sacrifice scheme
Ability to use an EV vehicle for site visits
Flu Vaccination voucher
Eye Care Scheme
Incremental pay award (awarded annually in April after one years' service)
