A little more about your roleWe are seeking a Principal Transport Planner to join our Transport & Mobility Planning team in Ireland. This role is based in WSP's Naas office, with hybrid working allowing for a mix of in-office and home working.
As a Principal Transport Planner, you will lead on a range of transport planning projects across the WSP business undertaking the role of Project Manager and/or Technical Lead on UK and Irish transport planning projects. You will work across modes to develop transport strategies, active travel infrastructure schemes, business cases etc. and support the development of transport programmes and projects from inception through to completion. This is a varied role, with responsibilities including:
- Technical Lead and/or Project Manager on a variety of Transport Planning projects, leading the technical and commercial aspects of the project
- Being responsible for the financial performance of your projects and contributing to the commercial performance of our team.
- Taking the lead on multi-disciplinary teams, working with our other WSP service lines to deliver large multi-disciplinary projects from concept to delivery.
- Taking a key role in the growth of the Irish Transport Planning Team including engaging with key clients to build relationships and win further work.
- Leading on transport planning bids including the role of Bid Manager.
- Working with UK transport and mobility colleagues to deliver transport planning projects across the UK.
- Supporting the ongoing development of the junior members of the team, either as a People
- Manager or a mentor who actively shares knowledge and identifies opportunities to grow and develop the team.
- Making an active contribution to WSP's four key pillars (People; Clients & Growth; Operations; and Expertise).
You will have an opportunity to work collaboratively with our Net Zero, Future Mobility and Freight growth areas on a range of innovative strategies for our public sector clients, as well as our extensive range of expertise practice groups, including Public Transport, Active Travel and Transport Communications.
Your TeamWe undertake a wide range of transport planning technical work for our clients across Ireland and the UK, as well as having an extensive portfolio of multi-disciplinary and cross-sector services, including active travel solutions; public transport network planning; scheme development and appraisal and business case development.
Our clients include Local Authorities and National Government Organisations. This provides our staff with the opportunity to work in a range of roles, across multiple disciplines, and realise their career aspirations, whatever they may be.
The Ireland transport and mobility team is a new discipline within WSP Ireland, therefore it is an exciting opportunity for ambitious transport planners to join the team to support the company's growth within Ireland. There will be opportunities to not only undertake technical work but to develop and build skills in client engagement and sales.
What we will be looking for you to demonstrate- Experience in leading and managing active travel schemes including of NTA PAG Phase 2-4 schemes.
- Experience of developing and managing transport focused strategies, plans and policies including experience of delivering transport plans through the ABTA process.
- Experience of other transport planning fields include business case development, transport assessments, scheme feasibility, concept design etc.
- Experience of engaging and building relationships with public and private sector clients.
- High level client and sales skills including bid writing, client engagement and presenting at conferences.
- Experience of Bid Management and confidence of working across disciplines to deliver high quality proposals.
- The ability to manage and prioritise multiple projects and tasks to meet deadlines.
- Ability to successfully deliver presentations and liaise with a variety of audiences - including colleagues, public sector officials, members of the public and other key project stakeholders.
- High level commercial skills including undertaking the role of Project Manager across a variety of transport planning projects
- Ability to manage tasks and support wider team management in leading more junior members of the team.
- Possess or working towards Chartered status or other relevant professional qualification e.g. Engineers Ireland, CIHT, TPP, CEng etc
