The RoleWe are seeking a Principal Structural Engineer to join our Building Structures team in Birmingham. This is a senior role where you will take the lead on the design, delivery and management of structural engineering projects, working closely with clients and multidisciplinary teams.
You will play a key role in shaping projects from concept through to completion, providing technical leadership, overseeing design delivery, and supporting the growth and development of the team.
Key Responsibilities- Lead the design and delivery of structural engineering solutions across a range of building projects
- Act as Project Lead, managing resources, programme, budget and client relationships
- Produce and review design calculations, reports, specifications and drawings
- Oversee structural designs in steel, concrete, timber and masonry
- Ensure compliance with relevant codes, standards and best practice
- Coordinate with architects, MEP engineers and other disciplines within a BIM environment
- Provide technical leadership and guidance to engineers and technicians
- Mentor and support junior staff, contributing to their professional development
- Attend and lead client and design team meetings
- Contribute to business development, including bid submissions and client engagement
- Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering
- Significant experience in structural design within a consultancy environment (buildings-focused)
- Proven track record of leading projects and managing teams
- Strong technical expertise across a range of structural materials
- Excellent communication and client-facing skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deliver to deadlines
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) status (e.g. via IStructE or ICE)
- Experience working within a multidisciplinary consultancy
- Familiarity with BIM processes and collaborative design environments
- Interest or experience in sustainable and low-carbon design
